Marvel Officially Announces 'Phase 3'

May 6th 2016 - Captain America: Civil War
November 4th 2016 - Doctor Strange
May 5th 2017 - Guardians of the Galaxy 2
July 28th 2017 - Thor: Ragnarok
November 3rd 2017 - Black Panther
May 4th 2018 - Avengers: Infinity War Part One
July 6th 2018 - Captain Marvel
November 2nd 2018 - Inhumans
May 3rd 2019 - Avengers: Infinity War Part Two

------------------------

Holy shit that's a lot of information. Chadwick Boseman has been confirmed as Black Panther in addition to the Benedict Cumberbatch/Doctor Strange announcement yesterday. I think the Avengers: Infinity War is going to be a crossover with the Guardians though I'm not entirely sure, they've also got Ant-Man fitting in somewhere on that schedule.

Cap 3 is going to be Civil War too? Jeeeeez I love that story so much and if that's what they're going to kick Phase 3 off with we're in for a fucking great ride. I feel a bit hypocritical because I was overwhelmingly negative when DC announced it's big movie line-up but I can't help but get excited about Marvel announcements, sue me.

So many fucking movies :lol

I'm really going to be interested to see whether these movies continue to be box office successes, or if the general public is going to soon get weary of all of these Marvel movies being put out. Regardless of how I feel about superhero movies as a whole right now, it's definitely impressive what Marvel has been able to accomplish with the cinematic universe when you consider the scope of the entire project.

Listen to those cash registers ringing up!!

People keep saying that people are going to be burnt out on Comic movies, but I'm not sure I buy that, maybe some of the lesser known ones might drop off, but you can't tell me that Avengers Infinity War 1 & 2 won't be massive hits.

As a casual fan of comics I have no idea what Inhumans is, and have limited knowledge of Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel. That being said I'll probably still see them. :lol

I'm getting very bored of the superhero thing by now. I might still go some of these with friends, but it's definitely getting to the point of overkill. I've already skipped a lot of the more recent films and I'll only be skipping more of them going forward.

I just hope that we get a decent range of other non-superhero blockbusters also over the next 10 years, to stop things from getting too boring. As long as there are movies I want to see in the theatres, I don't overly care if this superhero fad goes on forever. But unfortunately, it likely will have an impact on other releases.

Took the liberty of including the DC line-up in with Marvel's and holy shit talk about over-saturation of the genre :lol I

May 6th 2016 - Captain America: Civil War
Batman vs Superman
November 4th 2016 - Doctor Strange
Suicide Squad
May 5th 2017 - Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Wonder Woman
July 28th 2017 - Thor: Ragnarok
Justice League Part One
November 3rd 2017 - Black Panther
The Flash
May 4th 2018 - Avengers: Infinity War Part One
July 6th 2018 - Captain Marvel
AquaMan
November 2nd 2018 - Inhumans
Shazam
May 3rd 2019 - Avengers: Infinity War Part Two
Justice League Part Two
Cyborg
Green Lantern

Looking at that list and making completely unfair assumptions I'd go out on a limb and say that I think most of the DC films will flop. I can't see much interest in Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Shazam or Green Lantern and interest in Batman is pretty varied so soon after the Nolan trilogy. What do you all think?

Wonder Woman has potential to garner a lot of interest, as the first (that I can think of) superhero movie with a female lead. Given we've had movies on the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy, we should have had a Wonder Woman movie by now. On the other hand, casting a no-name actor in the role may not help attract people to the film. I can't see most of the others doing well. Maybe The Flash, but I'm skeptical about the others.

Oh, Batman v Superman also. People think that's going to be shit, and they're probably right, but there's been such a media circus around the film that people are obviously going to go and see it. I imagine that film will do huge business, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets panned afterwards. A lot of their future success probably hangs on that film.

And that's not counting the upcoming X-Men films, Spiderman films, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool.

Haven't seen either of them, which is probably why. But yeah, good call. :lol

Still those were both spin-offs of other male-centered franchises and not given the amount of attention that other super hero movies were. Wonder Woman is a genuinely huge character in her own right. She really should have gotten a film before Catwoman started getting crappy spin-off films.

That being said, while I think it's crazy the amount of superhero films we've gotten without yet getting a Wonder Woman film (or any strong superhero film with a female lead), it's not actually a film I'd bother watching. :lol

If they had waited and done a Catwoman movie after the Dark Knight trilogy with Anne Hathaway as the lead it probably would have done way better.

Hollywood has really become a producers industry now, and I think this onslaught of superhero films is reflective of that very (depressing) notion. Most large-scale projects all originate with the producer, and most of them really have no desire to bring anything creative or new to the industry. Instead of letting writers and directors have greater artistic control like they did between the 50s-70s, a majority of them get on their 'high horse' and essentially dictate everything. They understand that there is prodigious revenue in comic book adaptations and that's what they're chasing. This makes perfect sense, and I have no real problem with it, mind you, but the producer has become God, and there are so many genuinely creative and interesting ideas being turned down in Hollywood on a daily basis in favour of these works. But the industry is first and foremost a business. Always has been.
