I'm sceptical, too, but at least you've got a talented writer/director behind the project. I think Stone is definitely one of the best political filmmakers working right now, so I doubt this will come across as as a 'propaganda' piece that distorts the truth and heartlessly cashes in on the Snowden case like I initially expected. Stone has apparently been following this extremely closely ever since the leaks were announced, so it's a passion project for him, and I think that's a good thing because at least there will be a degree of care and research devoted to the work. Regardless of what one may think of the final product, it's not a studio cash-in like that abominable Jobs film, for example.
Joseph Gordon Levitt is talented, but certainly wouldn't be my number one choice. I would have much preferred to see a more obscure and unknown actor in the lead role. An unrecognisable face, much like the first time the world all first saw Snowden. Nonetheless, this has a lot of potential to be a good film. It may become a little politically overt at times, as this is hardly uncommon for a Stone film, but if handled well, it could make for an intense thriller as there is plenty to work off. Stone hasn't made anything decent for a while, in my opinion, but this could prove to be a 'return-to-form' piece.
