Sam Mendes returns as director.

Looking forward to seeing what they come up with. Skyfall was pretty outstanding, so hopefully they can duplicate its success.

I loved Casino Royale, hated Quantum of Solace and I was indifferent to SkyFall.

I'm a big Bond fan usually, but I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

I didn't really care for the original run of Bond films. I've never been a huge fan of the genre. So I was very skeptical about Casino Royale. But I ended up really enjoying it. The film was a nice departure from the older series and it really started things off on the best note possible.

So I was optimistic going into Quantum of Solace and I even saw it in the cinema. And my fucking God was it terrible. One of the worst action movies I've seen in my life. A nothing villain, barely a plot to speak of, and cringe-worthy chase scenes taking up 80% of the film.

After that it took me a while to watch Skyfall because my expectations had been lowered again. I ended up quite enjoying it. There were some silly plot contrivances, but all in all I enjoyed the film. It had more of a plot and the action scenes actually had some thought behind them. There was a cool atmosphere in the film too and the villain was leaps and bounds better than the one in QOS.

So now I don't really know what to think about the new one. I guess my expectations have lifted again after Skyfall, but based on past experience that probably means the next one is going to be shit. :lol

And when did you first begin stealing my thoughts?

Skyfall was ok, and I had a good impression of it immediately after watching it, but my opinion of it quickly reduced to nothingness afterward. It's possible that I only liked it as much as I did at first because it wasn't god-awful like QoS (in fun trivia, I almost fell asleep in the cinema while watching that film).

On the one hand, there'll be no Judi Dench in the new one - I liked the guarantee of at least one non-moronic female role. On the other hand, Mendes isn't just the guy who directed Skyfall; he did American Beauty too, and that's a great movie. Maybe he can pull it out?

Either way, reviews will be my friend here.

I'll only see it if Gary Oldman plays the villain.

That's not true, I'll probably still see it, but dammit why hasn't that happened yet?

Casino Royale is probably the best Bond film made. Just putting that out there.

It felt good to get to the roots of Bond and really develop his personality from the ground up again. Maybe i'm biased since I think Eva Green is quite possibly the most beautiful woman on earth but she was just great in Casino. Also, if it wasn't enough, Casino Royale has easily the best intro song.

Quantum of Solace was gutted by the writers strike. It's kind of a nothing film and it's a huge disappointment in the run of new "rebooted" Bonds.

Skyfall was okay. I guess. There are times when I really liked the film. The action and locations were pretty cool but Javier Bardem just didn't hit as the villain for me. He was, at times, menacing but other times he seemed incompetent and lackluster. It's probably a lot closer than they have ever gotten in introducing a compelling antagonist though. Le Schiffre was okay and I don't even remember the villain from Quantum of Solace. Who was it?

That's really my main sticking point with Bond films. I really have a lot of fun with them. I really enjoy watching them and being a Brit, I do take a certain pride in James Bond. For queen and country. But too often the antagonists fall short of being brilliant. They don't bring enough danger to make them memorable. They're often memorable for a catchphrase or mannerism. Blofield is really one of the major villains from the Bond film series and that's going back a long time (starts in From Russia with Love). Dr. No, Scaramanga, Odd Job but really there's no real strong villain, at least for a long time. The Brosnan Bond film's have probably the worst imo. Carver, Elecktra King and Renard, Graves and Trevelyan are all pretty bad.

Wow, this became a rant.

Am I looking forward to the next Bond? Of course. I hope they get the antagonist right.
