Jason :tim

He's clearly the best killer considering slasher movies. Although Halloween and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre are masterpieces of cinema and far better than any Friday the 13th film, Jason will always be the king.

This might sound crazy but... I've never actually seen any Halloween or Friday the 13th movie :O

No Nightmare on Elm Street movies either.

However, I DID see Freddy vs. Jason... so there's that :lol

First of all, Freddy vs Jason sucks. It should have been made in the early 90s where it would have maintained the vibe of the original series. All the subplots are mundane and the fight at the end should have been much more.

Here's the thing about the Halloween series. The first one is a masterpiece of independent cinema. John Carpenter put his heart and soul into making the perfect serial killer thriller and he succeeded. The sequels are not needed at all. The first one should have been a stand alone movie. But that was not the case and Halloween II picks up right where the first left off. It's a solid slasher movie, focused more on violence and gore than the first. The third Halloween has nothing to do with the first two films. No Myers, but the October/Halloween vibe is great. It's the best Halloween sequel because it's not a cash-in. Carpenter wanted to make a Halloween series of unrelated films all based around the holiday of Halloween, and despite most people considering it to suck because of the lack of Myers, I find it to be a fun, well made horror movie. Parts 4, 5, and 6 are fun, but completely unnecessary especially after Halloween III. Myers is back with a vengeance and creates havoc. Part 7 is Halloween h2o and it kind of sucks but has a slightly charming late 90s feel, and Part 8 is garbage entitled Halloween: Resurrection.

The Friday the 13th series is pure fun. The first four are the best. Especially 2 and 4. Part 5 is underrated, but disappointing considering the first four. The series picks up again when Jason gets turned into a Zombie in part 6. Part 7 should have been awesome, but it was butchered by the censors, Part 8 is memorable as Jason Takes Manhattan and leaves the woods for the first time. Jason Goes to Hell (Part 9) and Jason X (Part 10) follow, and they get worse as they go. It's all about the first 8, when Paramount was releasing them. 1-4 are easily the best though.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is a really good movie, one of Wes Craven's best. Part 2 and 3 are awesome. 4 is very colorful and fun, 5 is pretty bad but enjoyable and 6 is again very colorful and fun. 7 is a more serious sequel and it's quite good. Then comes Freddy vs Jason which like I said is bad.

Thanks for that @Vaderbomb! I'm thinking this fall around Halloween I'll have to get some buddies together and do a couple slasher movie marathons, I feel like I've missed out on some fun pieces of pop culture by never getting exposed to these.

If you're interested in a few/many other slasher movies worth watching, I made this list awhile back but I update it whenever a new titles comes around. https://rateyourmusic.com/list/mleitner ... er_movies/

Many of the best movies within the genre were not part of a famous series and were often stand alone independently produced films.

My favorite horror slasher villain will always be Freddy Krueger.

Krueger is a personal favorite because of the creativity factor that Wes Craven introduced into the slasher genre. The idea that a finger blade-wielding, Christmas sweater wearing, burnt child molester can kill you in your dreams using virtually any method is nuts. Throw in his sadistic, yet hilarious sense of humor in the films & you've got a horror legend. I'll be the first to admit that perhaps, on paper, it sounded absurd to begin with but Craven's imagination turned the idea into cinema gold. I've seen every NoES film including the shitty 2010 remake & I just love Krueger's demeanor & how he can be terrifying yet comical which is why NoES had such mainstream success in the first place.

With all due respect to Halloween & Friday the 13th, two movie franchises that I also enjoy (more Friday the 13th than Halloween), before the first NoES movie (1984) you had Michael Myers & Jason Voorhees. These two smashed through doors & massacred their victims with either a machete or a knife. Both didn't talk & both walked slowly & hid in the shadow behind masks, waiting to pop out and completely wreck shit.

Than you've got Freddy Krueger:

Those are two clips from my favorite film of the series; Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.

I mean, c'mon guys! How do you get more creative than controlling someone like a puppet by their veins or turning into a giant snake to swallow a girl. It's fuckin' genius!

A few more clips:

This! While Krueger's body count isn't as high as Jason's or Michael's, he's still managed to kill his share of victims in a way that I feel is cooler & more memorable than his fellow slasher counterparts.
