Anyone else looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy?

Postby prophet » Jul 23, '14, 4:42 pm

I never thought I would but I'm actually really looking forward to watching this movie. It seems like it'll be a fun film to just go and like...enjoy without watching analytically or anything like that. I also googled a few early reviews and the majority verdict is that it's one of Marvel's better cinematic outings.

Im really excited for it. I love Chris Pratt and think he'll be great. It just looks like an overall fun time at the movies. My fear is that Batista's acting may bring it down, but if his dialog is kept to the minimum and his action is good, then all will be good. Definatley will see this day one.

I'm really looking forward to it. Have been for a while. Looks really entertaining. Judging by the reviews, it's very good. With Batistas performance receiving a lot of praise. Seriously, look it up.

At the time of typing the film has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, obviously that'll drop but still impressive early viewing. I can't find anywhere that specifically praises Batista though, so you'll have to help me out on that one.

Sounds like it'll be a really fun movie, I'll not be going day one but I'll get around to it sometime next month.

This is one of those movies that I'll end up seeing if I feel like going to the cinema and it's available in 2d, and at a handy time. I wouldn't go out of my way, but I'm not uninterested.

I read somewhere that it has a firefly/serenity type feel in some parts, due to Wheedon being involved in some form. IIRC you and @Hanley are fans of that, so that make you abit more intersted. Also do the theaters near you not offer all 3D movies in 2D as well? Thats pretty messed up if thats the case.

I'll wait and see what my friends think first before I'll consider spending money on it. The trailer makes it look pretty awful, but I've been misled by trailers (positively and negatively) many times before.

They do, but not at the same times, and it may come out of one theater sooner than the other; we ended up watching Days of Future Past in 3d because it wasn't in the 2d screen anymore by the time we went to see it (we were very surprised by this!) Anyway, that's not a mistake I'll be making again - if I can't see a movie in 2d, I'm not going.

You're definitely right about us being big fans of Firefly/Serenity, but that still wouldn't get to definitely see it in the cinema. After all, Whedon directed The Avengers, and I only thought that was pretty good.

A lot of the problem here is that we've been to the cinema pretty frequently lately, and there's still other stuff coming out that I might be more inclined to go to see. Basically, this film may suffer from it being a pretty good year so far! :P

If I have enough cash I'd give it a try. Especially if this will somehow tie into Avengers.

Just saw this and I have to say it's freaking amazing.

Easily the best super hero movie made to date.

Surprisingly, Batista does REALLY well in it as Draxx. It's well paced, the beats are just right, the humour punches and sparkles and adds a nice counter balance to the earned and well played serious moments. The characters all shine in their own way. Chris Pratt does wonderfully as Star-lord, I think he's only found the role that will take him to the next level.

I demand everyone see it.

I pretty much agree with this. Although I think we have seen better action in Marvel films in the past, this one has much more of a charm than any of the others in the universe and is certainly a whole lot funnier as well. They also managed to put across a decent villain for it as well, something I think Marvel/Avengers films have struggled with at times. It was definitely a fresh addition to the Universe. I advise anyone that has a chance to go and see because I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Re: Anyone else looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy?

This movie was hysterical. It's definitely the funniest of Marvel's movies so far, there were several points where I laughed out loud. I love Chris Pratt, this is his year to become an A-Lister. Batista is a great straight-man to all of these comedians, Zoe Saldana's good, Vin Diesel as a tree still cracks me up, but this movie belongs to Rocket Raccoon. I want a talking plush toy of Rocket Raccoon. These characters end up having such a great chemistry together that I'm sold on a sequel. I want to see their crazy adventures, and how they can fit in with the rest of this Marvel Universe. Give me Tony Stark talking s*it with Rocket Raccoon, give me Thor and Drax kicking ass together, I want to see it!

My only problems with this movie were that it started a bit slow for me. Before Rocket and Groot came into the picture, it was kind of standard. Also, there was just one part of the climax that I found to be a bit too silly, even for this movie. Other than that, I loved this movie. I won't call it the best Marvel movie, but I think you should see it.

But if you stayed after the credits...

WHAT THE F*CK, HOWARD THE DUCK!!!

I seriously hope that they actually do a movie or something with him. If for no other reason than they CAN. I know he's associated with one of the worst flops ever, but that's all the more reason they SHOULD do it! Make up for that piece of crap and redeem him! And stick it to DC who is trying to make everything dark and brooding because Batman. Have some fun, let's get silly, bring on Howard the Duck! I'm in!

You'd be wrong.

I'll third Tom and Taj and say everyone should see this movie. I didn't have high hopes for it and it blew me away. This was one of the best movies I'd seen in a while. I'd definitely go watch it again if I had the chance.

Loved the film so much. I second that everyone should go see it.

If you want to go out and just have a good time then Guardians is for you. It has everything you'd want from a superhero movie - great action, great story-telling, great characters, fucking awesome soundtrack...it's also hilarious. I agree that Batista was great which really surprised me because I was expecting to cringe my way through all of his scenes but the way his character was written was superb and he actually gets some of the biggest laughs of the entire movie. I'm not sure how it's doing commercially but I hope it's a massive success because it deserves to be. Easily the best Marvel movie ever made.

If I had to nit-pick I'd say that Benicio Del Toro is vastly underutilized as The Collector but hey-ho.
Spoiler:
He's in the post-credits scene, so perhaps he'll resurface in a film somewhere down the line.

I'm going again later tonight, because I want too.

Also;

Spoiler:
Am I the only one who was disappointed by the post-credits scene? I get that Howard the Duck is somewhat of an infamous character to comic-book geeks and for them it was probably a really cool little easter egg but usually Marvel wets your appetite for their next movie and I guess I was expecting something better!
