Power Rangers to Get an Official Movie by Lionsgate!

Postby Romo » May 08, '14, 5:50 am

Lionsgate & Saban Brands announced today that the children's classic TV series Power Rangers will be getting a film of their own!

With an extensive and extremely devoted worldwide fan base as well as a deep and detailed mythology, the Power Rangers are primed for the big screen
They stated that the film "will re-envision the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers," however it is unclear whether they will be basing the film off one of the many Power Rangers generations, or if they will be creating completely new and original characters for the reboot.

Lionsgate has had massive success with the teen audience with Divergent, The Hunger Games, and Twilight series, but now they are taking to an adaptation for an audience that spans nearly twenty years of TV shows. Though Lionsgate has stayed relatively close to the books of the Hunger Games movies, some fans have complained about other franchises not sticking to their source material.

If Lionsgate were to include DinoZords, would the film just turn into another Pacific Rim? How can you solidify a story based on the over-the-top drama made for relatively young children? There are endless questions fans are dying to know, but unfortunately nothing else has been said about the upcoming movie (or is it movies?).

This announcement follows the big hype of the new TMNT trailers released in the past few months; a TV series that has had a similar TV audience spanning multiple decades. With the current uproar about their CGI'd appearances, could the Power Rangers reboot be setting themselves up for similar criticism?

Perhaps not: fans of Transformers have been fairly satisfied with the movies, having stuck with the movie franchise for 4 movies and now a potential fifth and sixth films according to leaks a few months back.

So, what do you think?

Michael Bay was born to direct this.... girls in tight clothing, half the city destroyed, giant robots, every pose met with something blowing up

As long as Jason David Frank is in it and its action packed i dont care about anything else. Its a Power Rangers movie so its bound to be cheesy, but it also can be really awesome.

As long as Bryan Cranston reprises his role as Snizzard then I am all for this.

Seriously though, I was a huge Power Rangers fan as a kid. I remember they had one full length movie before. But it was still fairly corny. If they can make this one some what serious then hell yeah, I'd watch it.

I wish they were doing the 199 hero battle as this movie but who knows. I guess with this they are not adapting sentai series or they are but have original version for movies.

I am excited

I hope it's somehow a bit more gritty/adult. I mean there are fans of the Power Rangers in their 30s and 40s now, so.. C'MAWN.

It's been rumored to take a darker path this time.

So many opportunities on stories!

Would love to get the original 5 back together for this to some degree.

But if Saban only done this sooner, we could have had the 199 hero battle completely re-shot for this and not having to rely on Sentai footage, it could have been used as a proper end to Super Megaforce (because at this point it needs saving).
