What is your favourite Johnny Depp film?

Postby Matteo » May 08, '14, 1:45 am

Mine would probably be Tim Burton's Ed Wood which is an endearing love letter to film and probably Depp's best performance as an actor too. I also love Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Dead Man.

If the phrase "love letter to ......" In relation to an artistic medium was a race I would embrace its genocide.

To answer your question though nightmare on elm street 2.

I love Ed Wood also. Depp was great in that. Also the first Pirates of the Carribean before Jack Sparrow got to weird and quirky.

Probably "Platoon" but that was not a "Johnny Depp film" so to speak he was just in it. Other then that "Sleepy Hollow" gets my vote. Good movie that was quite fun. Even Christina Ricci with her pasty little five head managed to look good in it.

All my friends used to love that film when I was a teenager, but I thought it was dire.

Sleepy Hollow might be my favourite film with Depp. It's one of Burton's better efforts, and Depp is actually trying to act in it, rather than making a constant string of quirky faces and noises. The first Pirates of the Caribbean film was enjoyable too - before the character (and Depp himself) jumped the shark.

You pretty much nailed why I love Sleepy Hollow and thing the Pirates sequels were shit.

His cameo appearance in Life's Too Short. EDIT: Realised it's films but still thought it was a good performance.

Other than that, Public Enemies.

What didn't you like about it? It's certainly a very dividing film that you'll either love or hate - I know people who think it's a masterful whilst others despise it. Terry Gilliam is one of my favourite filmmakers, though, and this is perhaps his most stylistically overt film, so this is probably why I really enjoyed it.

A Nightmare On Elm Street or Edward Scissorhands. Other than that, I honestly think he sucks.
