The writing was absolutely phenomenal. It tugs you in so many different emotional directions. Pity for Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) that he's actually falling in love with an operating system, then you begin to cheer for their relationship while still also wishing that he'd find something more real... it's just so complex and beautiful. But what really makes this movie so powerful is the commentary it provides on the way we interact both with technology and with other people, and the potential for how these relationships will evolve in the near future. Absolutely fascinating stuff, and it just felt so incredibly real. The atmosphere of the movie is gorgeous. The fiming, the music, the scenery... everything is just exquisitely done.
Phoenix's acting performance is incredible. While I still believe that Leonardo diCaprio will win the Oscar for Best Actor this year (and it's certainly not undeserved, he was great in that movie) I think that Phoenix's performance is not only the superior performance of this year, but one of the greatest acting performances of the last couple decades. Also, this movie confirmed a long-held belief of mine that there needs to be an Oscar category for voice acting. Scarlett Johannsen did a marvelous job and her charm is a large part of why this movie was so damn good.
I rarely give out ratings of 9 or above for movies, but this one... you know what, it's going to get a 10/10 from me, and I think I can count the amount of movies I've given 10s on merely 2 hands. The best movie of the year that I've seen any way, and I've seen some really good ones. This isn't the kind of movie that is going to appeal to wide audiences, but if you have an open mind this is one that you simply can't miss.

I had this on my dvr and decided to give it a watch thinking that at least it would be a shitty action movie with some entertainment value. Boy was i wrong. This is by far the worst piece of crap ive ever seen. Its the first movie ive ever turned off because of how bad it was. And i enjoy the other 4 Die Hards alot. This one was just terrible. It was boring as shit and took all the fun out of Die Hard. It turne Die Hard into one of those generic Jason Statahm movies, but atleast Statahm's movies are fun for what they are. I hope this is the last we see of John Mcclane and they put this franchise to rest.

A couple decent performances but the writing and plot was nothing to write home about and it seemed kind of disorganized. For a movie getting so much Oscar buzz, this one just didn't really have "it" to me. I had to make an effort to actually keep myself focused on what was happening throughout most of the movie. 6/10

There's a lot of special magic going on within. I'm not going to say anything about it plot wise, but I recommend it whole heartedly. It's a brilliant little piece of poetry.
