Watched Lost in Translation on the plane ride back from Los Angeles. Excellent film for the most part, but let down by its fairly uneven direction.

Blackfish - 7/10

Documentary about Tilikum the Orca who killed the trainer at Sea World a few years ago. I wanted to be study Marine mammals for a living for most of my teenage years, so I was fascinated by this. Very moving in places but it's a film with an agenda. For the mast part it walks a fine line, painting a fair-ish point of view ... but by the last 15 minutes, it essentially turns into an all out attack against Sea World in relation to the trainers death. I don't necessarily disagree with anything they claim or say, but I'm also not anti Sea World or animals (Killer Whales in particular) being held in captivity. I prefer my documentaries to hold a fair balance or at least offer the other side's point of view to a certain degree.

American Hustle- 7/10

I guess i went into it expecting too much, but can you blame me given all the rave reviews and award nomminations its recieved. This movie wasnt bad, not at all, just really really overhyped. All the actors were great, but the story was all over the place and i mever could tell what the real point of the movie was. Plus the ending felt rushed and the "twist" was pretty dull. The movie had some funny momments but not nearly enough for it to be catigorized as a comedy. If i hadnt seen the reviews and expected so much i probably would have enjoyed it abit more but overall its a forgettable movie that i wont be seeing again anytime soon.

Wolf of Wall Street - 10/10

DiCaprio's best performance of his career. Jonah Hill was great too. My favorite movie of the year.

Indie Game the Movie was decent. I'd give it a solid 8/10. Though I'm not sure if I'm supposed to feel bad for Phil Fish or not.

I know you tend to take contrarian views just for the sake of it, but I find this extremely hard to believe.

Anyway, I just saw Saving Mr. Banks, and I thought it was great. I think it was a little manipulative in the sense that it was a film by Disney so of course it tries to get you to side with Disney, but I think the story (which did a very good job of staying true to P. L. Travers's life experiences) was really well done, as was the script. The casting was also perfect. Emma Thompson was marvelous, Paul Giamatti stole the scenes he was in, Colin Farrel was excellent as Travers's father in the flashback scenes and Tom Hanks was his usual awesome self. A solid 8/10 from me.

I don't like the guy. I always have a hard time seeing him as a character. He's always playing himself to me. He has a good face and aura for movies, which is why he's succeeded so much in great films. An opinion that very few hold, but judging from his lack of Oscars, it seems like the Academy's agreed with me so far.

WoWS is the first movie I've seen where I was able to really get into his character.

And that first part of your sentence just isn't true. I may be a douche when it comes to these types of things, but it's not to be a douche, it's because I honestly think it.

I think the "playing himself" bit holds some weight, but he had fantastic performances in movies like Blood Diamond and The Departed. He's shown himself to be a very capable actor. He's no Daniel Day-Lewis, but you don't get a lot of guys like that who come around.

The last movie I watched in the theater was White House Down. It kinda reminded me of 24, so 8/10.

The last movie I watched, in general, was the first Terminator. I rate that a 10/10 because I want to fuck Sarah Connor and make a baby that's going to eventually save us from evil cell phones and laptops that want to nuke us. Scary shit. Hoping the product of my loins can keep that at bay. Also, I want to try to change the future so that Schwarzenegger never existed.

Just watched 2 guns last night with mark-e-mark and denzel
I give it a 8/10
It was a fun action film with a good comedic tone to it. Kept me entertained throughout. I liked the ballence between comedy and action and mark / denzel seemed to mesh well as co alpha males in the film.

Satantango - 10/10 - Seven hours of perfection. I've watched this big boy at least once a year since I first saw it a couple years back. Absolutely unbelievable that this film can be so long, so slow paced, yet doesn't drag for an instant. One of my top 10 favorite movies, easily.

Class of 1999 - 7/10 - Extremely entertaining Terminator/Escape from New York style film about a Seattle High School that is run by youth gangs in the distant future of 1999 (The film came out in 1989), until Stacey Keach brings a group of military assassin prototypes as teachers to discipline and educate the kids. Pretty much everyone dies, including Malcolm McDowell as the Principal. Much better than expected, lots of great gore and make-up effects counters the silly one-liners and explosions to make this far from a bad movie.

Beauty and The Beast - 10/10 - Jean Cocteau's 1940s French classic blows the Disney version out of the water entirely. The most magical film ever made. I am always more than happy to revisit this old favorite.

Saw Days of Wrath the other night. Impeccably directed (as expected), but a bit uneven purely because of its somewhat schmaltzy acting.

Just saw The Wolf of Wall Street. Wasn't always easy to watch -- makes you pretty uncomfortable knowing that this is a fairly accurate depiction of a Wall Street organization that basically stone money from thousands of people at one point. But it was really well done I thought, and man, Leo rocked that role. I've always been a fan of his, but this one may be the performance of his career so far. I'll be shocked if he gets overlooked at the Oscars for this one.

But yeah, excellent movie. Definitely recommended.

Seen a few more movies recently:

FROZEN: - Definitely wasn't disappointed. Loved the music in this especially, with the modern feel to it. Great stuff. The animation was fantastic, and it was just a lot of fun. Perfect kids movie. 8.5/10.

SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK: Definitely a lot of charm to this movie, and a well-written script. I can see why it was a darling at the Oscars last year. Solid performances from the main cast as well. It felt like it was missing a little something to me to make it break an 8, but it was an enjoyable, likable movie. 7.5/10

21 JUMP STREET: Lots of my friends told me they thought that this movie was hilarious, but I dunno, I didn't really see anything overly special in it. There weren't any jokes or any moments that really stood out that were unique or new. I mean don't get me wrong, there were funny parts, but most of the movie seemed like pretty well worn territory. 5.5/10

The Way Way Back: I bought this for my partner as part of her birthday present, and we both really enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for these kinds of movies anyway - coming of age stories with a nice mixture of comedy and drama. This reminded me a little of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but a bit lighter in tone.

It's a charming film with fun performances by the likes of Sam Roxwell and Alison Janney, along with a surprisingly good turn as villain by Steve Carrell. 2 minutes into the film I wanted to punch the guy so bad, and for once it wasn't because he was playing an irritating role in a crappy comedy. He really can be a good actor when he's in better movies, and his character came off as truly loathsome in this. I'd give the film maybe an 8.5/10.

I'd recommend it.
