Personally, I thought his performance in The Revenant was even better then Leo's. Not to take anything away from DiCaprio because he was fantastic as well.
Hardy didn't carry the whole movie, but he definitely had to carry a portion of it. [hide]The entire time Leo was confined to the make shift stretcher[hide] Hardy carried the scenes. Leo did a good job of selling with his facial expressions, but Hardy was the one driving those scenes. Not to take away from Rylance, but that is how I saw it.Everlong wrote:DBSoT wrote:I am happy that the best actor in Hollywood finally won, but that leads to a different issue. I'm fine with Rylance winning, I thought he was incredible. But while Hardy was really good, in no world was his performance better than Leo's. It was a far simpler, more straightforward role and it wasn't tasked with carrying the movie.

Hanley! wrote:Robert Downey Jr, Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise are all of similar levels of popularity to DiCaprio, are from the same generation (roughly) though I'm not sure why that matters. And have all also put on performances that were arguably just as deserving of an Oscar.
Harrison Ford is from a different generation, but is just as well known as DiCaprio even today.

A lot of people seem to think that just being a great actor is enough to win you the Oscar. It isn't. You need to have the most outstanding performance that year.

If that were true he would have won over McConaughey in 2014.
