Casting begins for "Fantastic Beasts and where to Find Them"

Anyone actually read this book?

I don't know much about it so I can't really get excited about it, especially when you consider how badly they botched most of the Harry Potter movies. But this is certain to make some headlines whenever it hits the theaters.

What are the chances this gets split into two or three movies, just cause?

I remember skimming through the book when I was younger, and from what I remember, I have no idea how they're gonna spin it into a movie. They had a coherent story to work with from the main Harry Potter books and they still managed to do a piss poor job adapting them, so god knows how this one will go. It's obviously a desperate attempt to keep the franchise alive now both the book series and movie series are over. I can't say I blame them for it, but I dread the day they announce the adventures of Harry's kids, that they inevitably do against JK Rowling's wishes.

I'm surprised at this hatred for the Harry Potter films. Personally I enjoyed them, except for maybe Deathly Hallows Part 1.

I'm a big fan of the first one. I think the third was the most well made, but that was my favourite of the books and I don't think they translated the story to screen particularly well. It was also the weakest performance from Radcliffe, and he was pretty poor throughout the series. The fourth, in my opinion, is the best adaption but the whole franchise took a nose dive with the fifth one as far as I'm concerned. Half-Blood Prince frustrated the hell out of me, and the split of the last book into two movies meant they both suffered from uneven pacing. I think the series as a whole lost some of the magic when Chris Columbus left to be honest.
