20th anniversary of Friends

Postby AkydefGoldberg » Sep 24, '14, 2:00 pm

Now, not a Friends fan by any means but I watch the episodes if they're on sometimes and I do find it enjoyable although probably not the rib-tickling LOL moments but a good laugh nevertheless.

I liked the first few series more than the ones nearing the end.

Would it be safe to say Friends wouldn't be as successful in today's TV? The writing would seem a tad outdated for today's times but the general premise would still resonate.

In celebration of it being the 20th anniversary of Friends, Comedy Central are showing many episodes every day. Which really isn't any different from any other day.

Anyway, I loved Friends during its initial run and I still catch a few repeats for nostalgia.

I'm a huge fan of Friends, it's my favorite sitcom of all-time and I could almost recite lines from every episode from memory. I would say that the show would just be as successful as it was then if it were to run now. I mean sure some of the lines seem outdated, but remove any sitcom 20 years from its run and things will be a little outdated. What's not outdated was its simple premise of six Friends lives intermingling in a very realistic way that had heart and great integrity.

I think the total opposite. I think it's aged extremely well.

Friends is the only sitcom that uses a laugh track that actually makes me laugh out loud. Love it to death.

Friends is timeless, it's one of those rare sitcoms that'll never get tiresome. I'm a big fan of the show and can watch the same episodes over and over without growing sick of it. My fondness these days is probably so high because there's not a time in the day when Friends isn't on, seriously. Whenever there's nothing to watch I can pretty much guarantee that Friends will be on somewhere - if anything I think the show is on more now (and more popular) than it ever was during it's original run.

20 years though?! The show is older than I am :lol

If Friends took place in the 2010's and not the 1990s then it would certainly work today. It worked then because it was the 90s and these six friends went through a ton of experiences that were similar to young adults at that time.

Plus, you know, Chandler. Could he be any funnier?
