9/10 for me.
After the last Tom Cruise film I went to see (Oblivion) turned out to be a complete and utter abortion the likes of which I'd never seen before I was skeptical about going to watch this new film, figuring it'd be the usual bland Cruise action flick...I was wrong. Edge of Tomorrow is a brilliant film.
Essentially the premise is Earth has been invaded by Aliens and Cruise gets thrown on the front line despite being a complete pussy...he dies in the battle only to find that the day repeats itself and he soon discovers he's trapped in some sort of time-loop. Those aren't spoilers btw...that's the plot. I may spoil somethings now though, so read at your own peril.
I suck at providing in-depth analysis or intelligent critiquing ability when reviewing a film so take from this what you will but I think this film has just about everything you could want from an action flick. The action is great, the alien's are sufficiently daunting and horrible, parts of the film are really funny and the acting from the two leads (Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt) is great. The time-loop never got tedious or annoying either and the film somehow made you want to see the day reset so they can start it again and advance further than they did before. It's basically just a gripping, funny, clever action movie that I really enjoyed and wanted to see if anyone else agreed with me on it.
I want one of you critical types to go watch it and score it a 2/10
