For just the second time ever, the World Series had better ratings than Sunday Night Football

What does this say more about -- baseball, or football?

Last night's matchup was a big-time game between two teams with massive fanbases, and it ended up being one of the better games of the year. But with how far down the NFL ratings are plummeting this year, you have to think that played a bigger role even than the fact that it's the Cubs in the World Series for the first time in 71 years.

Were the ratings for the NFL down or were the ratings for MLB up? That should answer your question. I also think it comes down to parity in sports. The Indians and Cubs have waited decades to get to this point and it shows in their viewership. Now I would attribute that more to Cubs fans. They have a huge fanbase and have waited over a century for a title. They were on the brink of elimination last night, which is a major contributor to viewership. Those who have no investment in the game, might have watched because it was the potential clinching game. For all the talk of parity in football, we rarely ever see it play out that way in the NFL. I think fans are just tired of waiting. In the last 16 superbowls, we have only seen 6 different franchises win. That means that only 38% of the league's fans have seen any real hope of a championship. Add that to the lack of different play styles in the NFL and rules changes, it has become unwatchable at times.

I thought Americans only pretended to care about baseball.
