ANNOUNCEMENT: What to expect when the forum is "closed"

I am hoping sometime this weekend, and if not this weekend, very shortly after, to be closing down this forum to begin preparations to transfer to the new forum with loads of upgrades and a unique layout and color scheme, custom logos and design, and over-all much better for our uses as Pub Talk.

Once the changes are about to take place, I will shut down this forum. A message will appear when you try to access any part of this website that will notify you that the database is being backed up, recompiled, transferred, and decompiled into the new forum system. Since we have to rely on http://www.prophpbb.com to e-mail us a copy of our own database, we don't know how long the process will take, but to make the process as smooth as possible we need the posting to stop as we transfer, thus the need for shutting this place down.

Once the process is complete, the "closed" message will become a URL that will direct you to the new forum.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Your current usernames and passwords should work at the new site and remain unchanged during the process. You should first login to the new site when it's ready and check over your User Control Panel and make sure all settings are correct and how you want them, and that your account and e-mail information is accurate. DO NOT RE-REGISTER. If for some reason your account doesn't work, contact Tim and I at admin@pubtalkforum.com and we'll iron it out from there.

All of the current forums and posts should be there, in place, just as they are here, and should work the same.

And finally, expect the first few days to be a little buggy. If it doesn't happen, I'll be amazed, but usually there's bound to be a broken image here or a little forum bug there. Please report all bugs in the bugs thread: http://theclub.prophpbb.com/topic783.html - note that this URL will be different when the time comes, but this is to point out that it's a stickied topic in the Forum Info & Discussion section.

I want to emphasize something you already mentioned and bolded/capitalized: DO NOT RE-REGISTER AT THE NEW SITE! Doing so may cause some headaches for us, and hopefully everything should transfer over smoothly after we receive a daabase backup.

ALSO: there's a SLIGHT chance that we may lose some posts from this forum in the transfer over to the new one. However, if we put in the request for a database backup after we shut this site down, I think we should be good.

Finally, don't get discouraged by the "closed" messages. Keep checking back until you see the link to the new site in place.

If you guys have any questions about the move or what to expect once we're there, or simply want to comment and say FUCK YEAH THIS SHIT'S GONNA RULE then feel free to post in this thread

Everybody give Locke your gratitude, he has been and will be working hard on getting this set up and without him this likely wouldn't be happening, because I sure as shit don't know anything about forum template design.

Ha, well we're hoping to work some pub-related imagery into the design of the new place, so there may yet be a pint or two involved. It'll all be up to Locke though and how he can manage to integrate stuff with the template he's putting together.

I would think so yes, but it never hurts to back them up on your hard drive just in case.
