IRC or Shoutbox?

As you'll see, I added an IRC channel to the index below the shoutbox.

Simple question, which do you prefer? I'm going to leave them both up for now, but likely only one will be a long-term option.

For those tech savy people, the IRC channel details (currently) are irc.mibbit.net #reyflyinfury619_test
If you use mIRC or irssi or something else, you can connect to the channel this way, without having to be on the website.

Both. Some chatbox mods are integrated into IRC. Those are my favorite ones, always wondered why the old forums didn't have it.

The 2nd IRC you used would be better for group chats and stuff.

Is there any way we could keep it the way it is now and have both? Sometimes it might be easier to log on and see if anyone's posted something in the shoutbox easier than logging into the IRC and looking.

Yeah that's fine. I mean, the only issue with having both is that it looks clunky but I'm totally fine with keeping both around.

I've seen some people posting their thoughts in the shoutbox about Shoutbox vs. IRC, just wanted to encourage people to put their thoughts in this thread!

For the record, when I said both, I meant that our Shoutbox looks and acts like a Shoutbox but its contents are actually an IRC channel. It would still just be one box (and would show archived/previous posts from earlier in the day).

One box strikes me as preferable, for sure. I just like things to be more streamlined. The shoutbox at the moment isn't that bad, though the way it's tucked into the corner of the page is a bit annoying. It'll do for the moment until ye find something better though.

^Yeah, it breaks the page layout. Won't be any of that once the "official" forum is up and running.

So far we have more votes for IRC, but people seem to be using the Shoutbox more.

I think what's going to happen, once we have our own domain/hosting, is that we're going to have a combination of the two... a chatbox that grants easy access that you won't have to sign into (like the one on WWE-Club), but also allows people to log in or whatever from their IRC client channel thingies.

I would say go for which one seems to be the more effective one that everyone can easily use
