If anyone is good with technical stuff (CSS, HTML, etc.)...

This is the forum where admin/moderator announcements and any discussion about the forums should take place.

If anyone is good with technical stuff (CSS, HTML, etc.)...

Postby Everlong » Oct 07, '13, 11:25 pm

Let me know. I really know nothing about this sort of stuff so it'd be cool to have someone come aboard and pretty this place up/get it some cool features. I've already kind of cocked up the shoutbox but at least it'll do for now.

From the closing thread at WWE-Club it appears that Locke and GameDesigner might be proficient in such things.

Yeah Locke especially would be great to have lend a hand if he's able, I know he's run forums before!

Oh also, this current layout is temporary. I figured I'd keep it looking like the old club right now for familiarity's sake, but by all means let's pimp this place out if we can find some cool stuff.

Well we could certainly do with the flogging the dead horse smiley.

I also found a cracker of a "wanking smiley" but Bryan wouldn't add that one.

I've run a few forums before and currently do web design in my role at work - what have you got in mind?

I honestly have no clue, it'd be great to design this place based on what the community wants to see.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Well the downside to running a site on prophpbb is that you cant really mod everything the way you can on a standardly hosted site.

Down the line, if someone wants to go through domain registration and hosting, you can export the database from here and upload it there, so its not an issue of losing data.

Perhaps the best thing is to see if the forum will live and then make a list of things we are missing and if we can't get them here think about moving to a stand alone site.

In terms of things to have on here, something I always though was missing (and is a good way to keep people coming) is to install the Arcade mod - basically a bunch of arcade-like games that you can play through the board with your user name.

Also there are mods to link to your Xbox/Steam accounts to your profile which would be pretty good.

Obviously mChat would be good.

If I can think of any others ill post them here.

I'm going to be working on getting mchat set up within the next couple days if it's possible on here. Yeah, we definitely aren't going to have as many customization options on a free forum provider, but I think down the line if things are going well (we'll monitor how things go for a while) I'd possibly be willing to spring for some hosting and a domain.

Sounds like mchat isn't going to be compatible with a free forum :/ But I'm going to keep hunting for a better free chat service.

I mean, the one we have now will work, but it'd be cool if we could get something a bit more functional.

Did you check out the PHP Academy website...they have an Ajax chatbox that is similar to WWE-Club

Only thing is that you would have to download a ZipFile.

I'm pretty rusty on phpBB but every time I dig in, I exceed my previous skill. I wish I had screens and backups to show off but I lost most data in the great wedding of '07.. aka got married and ditched my nerd habits for a few years.

I'd be glad to help, customize, modify, and graphicize anything for the new club here (but you're going to need a real webhost & URL for the advanced stuff, otherwise we have to float here awhile with the stock code). One problem. Busted wrist. Taken me ages just to type this out proper. If you guys don't get a capable person by the time I've recovered, I'll be your huckleberry. As it stands now, I'm probably 4-6 weeks out of that capacity.

I can:

Modify the free phpbb code provided with mods/hacks for features (from admin tools to user interface, post interface, etc.)
If I don't know it, I can learn it
Pixel paint (icons, animated smilies, etc.)
Graphics (logos, wallpapers, etc.)
Server-side (backup SQL databases, import them, modify them, etc.)
Cut hair
Repair computers
Be an ass clown
And more

Just gotta regrow bones first.

I will be handling this bidnuss, then. Tomorrow I am getting a new cast. If it's less invasive, I will begin "rehab by webdesign" immediately. :lol
