The color and skin

Postby Locke » Oct 12, '13, 10:02 pm

This hasn't exactly been a great debate yet but I can see it becoming one, so I'd value everyone's input.

Long story short, this current blue/grey/black skin is called AcidTech Blue and it's more or less a very default skin for PHPBB forums/boards. What this means is, despite nostalgia and what WWE-Clubbers are accustomed to, this is not an original skin. There are likely hundreds of boards out there that use this exact skin/theme and you'd not be able to tell the difference other than the site header/logo. Personally I hate that idea. I feel we're one of the best communities that exist on a forum platform and we should NOT be using something that any Tom Dick or Harry can instantly choose from a list. I'm also not fond of muddy murky grey with sky blue, it's insulting to my nearly feminine color/art/interior design molded mentality. :lol

I can, and highly desire, to create or heavily modify a different skin to become fully original and separate us from the old WWE-Club. It can be similar, just not exactly the same. However, what I want and feel may not be the same as the collective community, so I'm putting this up for vote.

Choose what you will and give your reasoning if possible. Thank you, folks!

I voted to keep it similar to how it is now but obviously a wee change here and there wouldn't hurt. I like the dark palette as it's quite easy on the eyes.

I say to let you run with it. The whole point on this board is to make ourselves something new, so itd be cool to see how new colors look. But maybe provide some examples and let us vote on those before changing it permanantley.

If the vote turns out that the majority just doesn't stick with what we already have, I'll have another vote to choose the final color scheme with screenshots and examples. 8)

I do like the idea of a darker palette, because looking at a white/bright screen for long periods of time isn't exactly great on the eyes. I don't really have any strong feelings on specific colors, though.

I'll probably stay dark regardless for those very reasons, but if I chose grey/blue they would harmonize unlike these bleedy clashy contrasts.

It's why I have to put reddit into night mode.

Anyways I vote for a theme designed around the flag of the most beautiful place on the planet.

Like others, I'm definitely in favour of a darker palette as it's easier to read, though aside from that I don't really have any problems or suggestions.

I'd like to change things up a bit for sure. Make things feel a little fresher. A dark pallet is better for reading, I agree with the others on that. But a little brightness wouldn't hurt, in the accents/details maybe. You can play around with it and I'm sure we'll eventually land on something good.

I definitely think we should change things up, it feels like an uncensored wwe-club clone at the moment. If i'm honest it seems a little dated. Change to what exactly I'm not sure, so I voted to let you run with it. You seem to know what you're doing so I trust you'll come up with something great!

Id say stick with the theme that we already have, however we could remove some of the textures and make it look a little 'flatter' Plus a new font would be awesome

As long as it stays pretty dark, then I'm fine. As people have said already, it makes it easier to read. I have been on a few forums where where the skin was either really pale or bright or even white. It's just better this way. I do favour blue, if I had to pick a colour. But I trust Locke completely to come up with something cool.

I'm not generally one to use dark themes because I feel they look newbish in design, but that doesn't mean they all are and it's the reason we will stay dark. I'll relish the challenge of making the place dark themed while sporting shiny professional accent colors. I just loathe sky blue with murky grey. There are plenty of gorgeous blues that look rich with grey, I just don't feel the current theme is one of them.

This may read odd, but a darker pallet tends to be better for a sports(Wrestling) forum because it just fits the grittiness of the sports themselves. That doesn't mean we can't go a little different, but its just what I am used to seeing.
