I can barely bring myself to kill insects because even then I feel bad about it. If I had to fight an animal to stay alive I'd probably die.

I'd attempt to do it to another human if they hurt my mom or dogs, and honestly I rate animals over most people I know so I probably wouldn't feel worse.

^I feel ya, man. I hate insects, all of them, but I also feel bad for just mercilessly killing them. I only kill things that bite or sting to protect my son (or myself) if they get in the house or come too close while outside. I have what I would consider a decent level of arachnophobia but I won't kill a spider unless I can tell it's one with a poisonous bite (killed a few black widows and brown recluses, yay Missouri). Otherwise I leave them be unless they follow me.

Not even kidding, as a kid (probably 14) I swatted a spider in my bathroom but I missed, and it fell off the wall. I shrugged and walked away and went back to my room (a good distance away from the bathroom - at least 2 rooms worth - I suck with measurements and shit). I kept my door shut as a teenager, not even for the spankage, just to drown out noise from my folks' TV and shit, but I kept the habit even after they went to bed. It was an airtight door top and bottom, soundproof too. About an hour later I had to go to the bathroom again, opened the door, and happened to look down. That fucking spider was waiting there for me, not moving at all, dead center of the divider on the floor between my room and the next (can't think of the word.. threshold maybe?). HE KNEW WHERE I LIVED. I killed him immediately.. but ever since, I don't swing at spiders unless I deem them legit threats. Because if you miss, they will track your ass down.
