My Student Life is Over

Postby Georgerv » Jun 03, '15, 11:59 pm

So I just finished 4 years at university studying the oh so exciting topic of Economics and Finance. It's very slowly dawning on me that I have no fucking idea how to this whole real life thing.

I have an even more exciting job of an Accountant starting at the beginning of July.

So basically 3-4 weeks left to prepare, any advice or jokes or dumbass videos to share that might take my mind of the fact that I'm now supposed to be an adult and doing adult things.

No I won't go and watch Grey's Anatomy (I've heard that's a grown up thing :lol )

PS. I may be slightly drunk right now

Live within your limits. The more frugal you can be the less stressful making ends meet can hopefully be. Try to look at purchases through the lense of, "Is this a need or just a want?" If you can land a well paying job and are able to be financially responsible you're off to a much better start than a lot of your peers. For example it's amazing how much smokes or drinking every weekend can drain your finances among many other things. Of course some people have no vices or wasteful spending habits and still can't get by, it sucks.

If you're going to ever gamble with your money, do it with the stock market, not the casino.

I'm impressed you've found a job so quickly, it took me about 8 months to find a full-time work. It sounds like you've got a good degree though.

Congrats man!!

Take advantage of these few weeks before you begin your job, because god knows you're going to have to spend a whole lotta time on the job going forward. Consider taking a little trip even.

Congrats mate - the hard work begins now away from the comfort zone of university.

Did you do a placement at all? Might help with the job prospects.

But enjoy while you can before you sober up and reality hits! x

As an Accountant I can tell you "Welcome to Hell." Hope that helps. At least you get to deal with IFRS instead of GAAP.

Nope, no placement sadly. The job I have lined up is good though, and it's for my friend's company (boy did I luck in there). I get to work under a really great Financial Director, which will be a good learning experience though and should help with prospects in the future.
