Good bachelor party ideas?

Postby Everlong » Aug 16, '14, 4:05 pm

So I'm my brother's best man in his wedding in a few months and it's on me to plan his bachelor party. It's tough though, because he doesn't really drink much and therefore probably wouldn't be too interested in barhopping or any kind of big party. The other issue is that since he's getting married in December, the weather isn't going to be great here in Wisconsin. Very cold. So the options for doing stuff outside will be really limited, otherwise I'd look into a renting a cabin overnight somewhere and just hanging out.

So what are some alternative options for bachelor parties? Any good ideas?

I've asked him what he wants to do, but he was no help at all in that regard. So it's on me to come up with something good.

You can't go wrong with renting a cabin somewhere in the woods, somewhere quiet and gathering all his friends & yourself and just chill before his big day.

This could work if you guys are the outdoorsy type. Maybe you guys could rent snowmobiles, or go ice fishing or something nearby?

Also, who gets married in the middle of December in Wisconsin!? :P

@Romo The cabin would be exactly what I'd do if it wasn't gonna be so fucking cold by then, haha. Maybe I'll still look into it, but the pickings will be slim in winter time.

@Str8Shooter Yeah it's annoying. His fiancee has always dreamed of having a wedding on New Years Eve and so that's what they're doing, then they're having a champagne toast at midnight. Kinda stupid and it's going to be a pain in the ass for people to get to Minnesota (their wedding will be where she's from, the Twin Cities) in the wintertime but nothing I can do about that.

What you people got against fucking December?! I was born then.

Tim. I got a great idea for you. "The Grey Experience" take everyone out for a week in the woods with wolves. Whoever survives gets to go to the NYE wedding.

I'll be very curious to see some of the answers here too, as I'll be planning my own next year and I'm not really sure what I want to do yet. I would find the whole stripper thing really weird and uncomfortable, and that's not really that big a thing in Ireland anyway. Alcohol can definitely be involved too, but I'm not a club guy at all. A nice quiet pub or a house party would be more my scene.

I'm not sure whether your brother is open to the idea of bars in general, given he's not a big drinker. But maybe something a bit fancier might be more his speed, rather than barhopping or a big party. Like a cigar bar or a lounge or something, with just a few friends who can get all suited up and drink some champagne or cocktails and act all sophisticated. :P That's an idea that I kinda like.

An activity could be good too. The cold might rule out things like hiking, camping or paintball, but you'd be a better judge of that than me. Maybe there's indoor activities he'd like to do with friends though. Like gambling or poker or something along those lines.

You could always check if there were any concerts or things on around that time too; some other larger event you could piggyback off.

Get a suite at a Packer game!

I found this http://packerfantours.com/lambeau-field-skyboxes/

Not sure if youre brother is as big of a football fan as you are but tht sounds pretty cool. Maybe abit too expensive. Not sure how many people you have. You could do the game on December 8th against the Falcons or the 28th against the Lions. Not sure how impossible these are to get but you can inquire if thats something he would be in to.

Give a lil more idea here, whats the general budget. Is it a cheap thing or are people okay spending a decent chunk?

Cabin, shooting range, poker, BBQ, snowmobile, snowboarding, gamenight, roadtrip, paintball, skydiving, trampoline dodgeball, strip club, arcade... vegas?

Does the best man exclusively have to arrange the bachelor party? I have never been a best man but my best friend will most likely get married soon and I am gonna be his best man. Another friend of mine is getting married next year and he is thinking about going Amsterdam for the weekend. That should be a lot of fun. Never been before.

I think a good idea would be just a whole day of male bonding. Or perhaps the whole weekend. Do all of the things you may not be able to do much anyone once your brother gets married. Go to a sports game. Go Go-Karting. Paintballing. Stay up all night playing computer games. Then chill out the next day with a big meal and a couple of pints. That sounds like pretty good time to me.

If he is a sports fan you can go to a sporting event. depending on where you are located you can see if there is any local events going on. Or visit a nearby city and play tourist.

My buddy's bachelor party was last weekend and we did this same thing at a Cubs game. Free food and free beer. It was a blast and I would highly recommend it. Granted if your brother isn't a sports fan or a drinker than this really doesn't work. If you choose the Lions game at least you know you will win. The date may be to close to the actual wedding though.

This would be amazing, but it's fucking expensive :lol

Most of my brother's friends that will be coming are college aged or just past college aged, meaning it can't be too big of a production or too expensive. I'd say a reasonable expectation is up to 75ish per person for the festivities, but that'd probably be my top end. I don't want people feeling like they have to set aside a really big chunk of money, especially with the wedding itself coming up and his other groomsmen needing to rent tuxes, people getting gifts, etc.

Cabin is still a possibility if I can get the party to happen in October rather than closer to the wedding. He's never played paintball before so I'm not sure that'd be something he'd be into. Game night would probably be a pretty good possibility as well, I"m just trying to think of things we can get out and do as a big group activity that would make it extra special rather than just any other night where people are hanging out together. Given the time of year and his relative lack of interest in alcohol, this is difficult :P

That's the tradition here in the States anyway.

With the idea of going to a game, would it be possible to reserve a section in a fun sports bar or something for the evening instead? Maybe go bowling beforehand, or go to an arcade or something?

EDIT: Or, if he shares your enthusiasm for craft beers, would a tour and tasting run expensive? -this is working on the assumption that he does drink, but just won't want to get really drunk.

If you'll be having the party in the super-cold times, you could consider something weird like doing ice-carving, going tobogganing, etc. - make the timing an asset, and do something you couldn't do at another time of year.
