What do you do for a living?

Come introduce yourself, have a drink and talk about anything! This is the place for any and all off-topic conversations.

What do you do for a living?

Postby Everlong » Oct 16, '13, 10:27 pm

I'm a senior editor of a public relations and copywriting firm, so I do a whole lot of writing and editing, as well as conference calls with clients to discuss what their needs are. While it's not always the most exciting job, it's good to get paid for something I'm good at (writing) AND I get to work from home and basically set my own schedule.

What about ya'll?

To pay the bills I work at a restaurant, manage the kitchen to be exact. I have other investments that bring in about the same as my restaurant work.

As far as a living? I love my girlfriend and my friends. I make films, music and have a public access TV show. All I can say is I'm never bored.

Yeah, I like the way you put that. I'm not particularly passionate about my job but over the last year or so I've started to become more comfortable with not letting my job define me. You always hear people talking about how you should get into work that you're super passionate about and yeah, sure that's awesome if you can get it, but so few people actually do. So really I have a feeling that for most of my life, work is just going to be a means to be able to stay involved in the things that I do love.

I've had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since my last year of High School which pretty much put my life on hold, so job wise, not done much of anything. Which is quite worrying to be honest. My only real skill/interest is writing so I'm trying to make something of that. Who knows what'll happen?

Right now, I am out of a job. But I have a job application to send off to send off to a company which works for the local council in which I will work with Data Input. So fingers crossed!

Currently a stay at home mum whilst my OH brings home the bacon. Before that I was a checkout assistant at a large supermarket chain.

I don't have a job currently. I go to university in a small town where most places are small and privately owned, and that makes them quite hard to get into. I've applied to basically everywhere, but to no avail.

To make money, I import and sell things on ebay. It doesn't make me much, but every little helps.

That's the job I'd like. Not being a senior editor but someone just saying to me: "Aky, WRITE....NOW!" and I'd be up and runnin lol!

I'm unemployed atm after a spell at a niche newspaper went awry, applied for loads but stuck in a rut atm. Even offering free writing for people didn't garner much interest. Like you said, would love to be paid for writing, even if it isn't the most entertaining or thrilling.

I work in commercial underwriting for a large global insurance company. It's a decent job, I don't hate it by any means. But as others have said, it's not exactly my passion. It's just what I do to pay the bills. I've always been a work to live person and not a live to work person.

I complete projects I'm more passionate about outside of work hours - writing, music, etc.

I take care of mentally handicapped and mentally retarded men and women. I work int heir homes and assist them in their daily needs (bathing, food prep, appointments, general outings, etc) basically anything you would do on your own and take for granted

I'm a Barber, I co-own a shop. I don't love it, I don't hate it. I just work to live. Hear a lot of strange things, see even stranger. The nice old men die and the mean old men live and live and live. But, it's a living!

I work in a warehouse.

It's not bad. Work is not too hard and the money is fairly decent. I am pretty happy here. It was never my ideal job but I wouldn't be bother if I stayed here a while. Lots of pretty girls to look at while I'm working as well, so that's an added bonus.

I'm a laptop/tablet repair tech for the Toshiba Repair Depot. Good work, and I enjoy it. I just wish it paid more. My wife works for HP in the same building.

I am a heavy equipment operator for the county I live in
I love the work, operating backhoe's, front end loaders and road graders is awesome and I enjoy it. However, all though the bennies are phenominal the pay fucking sucks, I essentially work for minimum wage when you reduce my all ready low hourly pay with deductions for insurance and retirement.

Just studying at the moment, which is excessive and challenging but nonetheless interesting. I saved up quite a lot of money from working throughout all of last year, so, at this moment in time, money isn't exactly a burder on my shoulders.
