Yeah renting sucks, it's also horrifically expensive for what you get. We've been lucky in that we rent from a family member at a discounted rate otherwise we wouldn't be able to live where we do.

Does anyone have a place I can crash, until I get a job? Maybe the corporation I work for will let me transfer to one of their English companies.

Oh wait, I guess with Brexit, I can't move over there anymore now that Trump is president. You guys don't want minorities either.

How racist is Ireland? Someone please take me. :rotf

Yes Porky, renting in London will be a difficult proposition mainly with the cost or who you get lumbered with.

Personally, I'd rather have comfort in my home surroundings and pay that extra bit more than be stingy (which I normally am tbf) and live with numpties.

If you haven't got any family relatives or Uni friends who could either help you out or give you some pointers, then alot will be down to your situation and feeling on a prospective rent.

I've got a couple of viewings booked for Friday. I'm a bit apprehensive as I start my new job on December 1st so I'm going to have to find a place to stay before then, and I don't want to be living in a hotel for ages.

The minimum tenancy for both properties is 6 months so if I hate it I can move on fairly quickly, which is alright.

Hopefully you find somewhere suitable. If rent prices are a problem would commuting from outside of central London be an option? Prices are still high I think but it gets cheaper the further out you go, I think anyway. If you're not already considering that.

All this talk about renting has made me think more about how I need to move out. I know it may sound sad but I still live at home. One of the main reasons is because I can save money this way. Sure, I could save money by living with a room mate, but I honestly am terrified about living with a stranger. I would rather live with parents. I have a lot of monthly payments right now that I should no longer be paying by next year. So once that stops, I will have more money to spend every month to hopefully get my own place.

I've saved so much money since getting rid of my car, it's not even funny. It was an old Citroen Saxo which I've had for years so it was fairly crap anyway, but I've saved a ton of money and have also been able to budget better.

Living with strangers is daunting (I'm facing the prospect at the moment) but one of my housemates at uni was a guy I'd never met before, who quickly turned into one of my best friends. You have to remember that all your friends were strangers at one point.

Most of my best friends have been my friends since I was 3 years old. I don't remember a time when I didn't know them. But I see your point. Perhaps I need to be more outgoing and willing to meet new people.

369m.

Nope, that's not a figure that the Leavers are going to reinvest into the NHS now that we're out of the EU but the amount required to spruce up Buckingham Palace, announced on Children In Need day as well.

I moved to London today. Barely had time to get my bearings yet, so I Googled 'Supermarkets near me'. The closest three are Marks and Spencer, Sainsburys and Waitrose.

Fuck.

^Bugger. Sure there'll be some discount stores but further out I'd guess. Have to judge whether the expense in travel is worth it.

Best of luck mate!

A long read here on a child abduction case in Newcastle with scary and ominous signs of the James Bulger case in the 90s. Reading it as the story unfolded was horrifying, unimaginable for the parent involved.

Can we talk about what a sour faced old hag Theresa May is and how the Tory party have a difficult time understanding what the word sovereignty actually means?

It's Teresa May - well, that's what her best friends in the US administration seem to think it's spelt. BTW, apparently it's a porn star with the same name - sure there's jokes to be had there..

Uninspiring, divisive, power hungry and not elected by anyone. I remember when Brown used to get hammered by the salesman Cameron that he wasn't elected to the top job yet you hear nothing said by the opposition about it.

Sorry to rant but it's on an important matter, and one that I'm sure some or many of you have experienced.

Imagine this scenario.

You have a well-sized bin for a family of three, and you also have a second thinner bin that is handy for those excesses (not sure how you can overfill on one bin, never mind two but..)

Now, your first bin is overflowing. Your second bin is empty.

Do you:

a) do what any normal person would do and put the extra bags into the second bin for collection? OK, it's a slight irritant having to put a bin out for 3/4 bags but hey, that's what it's there for.

b) do you behave like a sly prick and sneak over to the nextdoor bin (not mine incidentally) and fill theirs up because you can't be arsed to put out your second bin?

Guess which option my annoying neighbour chose. Some of you may well be aware I've my suspicions that the whiska-biscuit had been topping our bin but glad to have caught sight of him tonight sneakily disposing his rubbish into their next door neighbour's.

Anyhow, that's my - maybe irrelevant to some - rant out of the way!
