That's a lot of money.
My wife and I aren't in debt thankfully, so the first thing I'd do is to buy a house. A really nice house. I don't think I'd want a mansion or anything like that, because it'd probably feel a bit empty and cold. So it'd just be a big house, but a nice one. I'd spend a lot so we could have it equipped with everything we wanted, and have all the best furniture and decorations, etc.
I'd probably want to share some money with my family and with my wife's family.
I'd buy some really nice musical instruments - definitely a grand piano and a range of guitars, along with a few other assorted instruments. And I'd create a home studio.
I would definitely quit my job. I've never been one of those people who'd go crazy if he didn't have a job to go to. I'd spend a lot of the time I used to spend work writing. I'd spend a little playing and recording music too. And I'd probably do the odd course to break things up, like cooking or photography.
Other than that everything would just stay in a savings account to accrue interest. I wouldn't lead a lifestyle that was too much of a drain on my new wealth. I'd probably go for a holiday a couple of times a year with my wife, and go out for dinners and shows and things like that on weekends, but nothing much fancier than that.
I would want to give something back too, and I always thought I'd just donate to various charities from time to time. But Tim's idea about funding an arts scholarship is a really good one. Or funding local arts projects or clubs. I'd really like that.
