The worst injury you've ever had

Postby Everlong » Oct 22, '15, 12:25 pm

I've never really had any super serious injuries. One time I did gash my head open playing kickball at recess in third grade. Had to get staples in my head.

Another time I partially tore my hamstring while hurdling. That really sucked, there isn't a whole lot you can do for that kind of injury other than RICE (rest ice compression elevation).

I've had a couple pretty bad ankle sprains too, but I've never broken any bones or torn any ligaments or had any injury that required surgery.

I've never had anything really serious, in terms of injuries. But here's the top three:

3) I ripped both of my hands open when I was 11, by falling off my bike and skidding along a stone road with both hands out in front of me. I couldn't write for a couple of weeks and when my family went to Spain on holidays a few weeks later I had to wear rubber gloves in the swimming pool.

2) I once sprained my ankle badly on the way home from a night out when I misjudged the distance between my foot and the curb. My lack of coordination can be explained by the bottle of Jaegermeister I had consumed previously. Hopped the rest of the way home, and was off work and laid up on the couch for a week.

1) I needed five stitches on my chin and two on one of my knees when I fainted coming off the train to work last year. Both knees were bruised badly and it was hard to walk for a couple of weeks. I had tried to go back to work too early after having the flu, because we were hearing back about a promotion competition. Turns out that the results had been postponed until the following day, and I received them while lying in bed with two gammy knees feeling sorry for myself. At least I got the job.

I used to like climbing on stuff I wasn't supposed to. Yeah I know, pretty badass. Anyway I fell off of a garage and broke a few ribs when I landed on the kerb. Made it really goddamn hard to breathe for a while.

I had stiches on my wrist after I threw my right arm through our kitchen window in fury at being taunted by my brother when I was around 10/11. Never bled so much in my life before or since then - my dad was not chuffed at all to have to get up, at around 11pm, to take me to the hospital to get it stitched up with work in the morning!

Some guy gave me a good kicking when playing football. Nothing was broken (I've never broken a bone, luckily) but my ankle and lower half of my shin turned purple and swelled up for a few weeks. It hurt to basically do anything which involved movement.

The worst injury I ever had was when I sliced my arm to shit. I slammed a door shut and my arm went through the glass panel. Lost a lot of blood and needed up to fifty stitches. I still have some pretty impressive looking scars on my arm.

I never broken any bones or had torn any muscles or anything. I once got a hairline crack on my arm when I fell off my back at a very young age. But when I put my arm through that window, it was the first and only time I have ever had to spend a night in a hospital.

After actually reading through the other replies (I have a habit of just replying first and then reading) I realized that mine and your injuries are quite similar.

My injury also occurred during an argument with a sibling. My sister and I were arguing about what we were gonna watch on TV. It got heated and I ran to my room, which is when I slammed the door shut. My dad was at work when it happened and had to leave to go visit me at the hospital. He was also not chuffed and actually told me off rather than show any kind of concern. Although I'm sure he was concerned. While my biggest scar is on the bend in my arm, I also got cut around my wrist quite badly and have a few scars there as well. Can't remember how old I was but I know it happened while I was in upper school, so must have been between 12-15.

Ha, my idea was that if I pushed as hard as I could on this glass panel kitchen door that the taunts of my brother would fade away and I wouldn't hear it but I could hear it even more loudly after my hand went through!

I got my finger caught in the hinge side of a faulty door when I was 4. Cut the tip off. It got sewn back on but it's a little narly and an inch or so shorter than it's counterpart on the left hand. I actually taught myself to do a lot of things with my left hand because of it, cause I had to have a pin to hold the tip of my finger in place for months. 21 years on and I still do a lot of shit left handed. So that's a nice upside to something shitty that happened.

When I was about 13, I shredded my quad, my kneecap was ripped out of place, shattered my patella, broke my tibia and fibula and fucked things up even further by trying to walk into the hospital. That pretty much screwed my life, cause from the surgery I ended up with post viral fatigue, which tuned into severe vertigo, which spiralled into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which has kicked my ass for the past ten years. Not such a good upside to that one. High Jump is a dangerous sport.

Only other thing that springs to mind is a collapsed lung.

The weirdest injury I've ever had, and this is gonna get graphic, was a blood blister on my dick. Girl giving me a handjob some years ago pinched the skin between those fake acrylic finger nails. Next day it looked like my dick was growing a second head. Unpleasant to say the least.

You think you're a man til you've had kidney stones.

I shredded my back up pretty badly squatting 600lbs once. During wrestling season, had a guy dislocated my thumb. Left it pretty crooked. Split my head open once. Can't remember much from that

Not only have you provided an amusing story but you may have also helped me out with a diagnosis.
