What stereotypes about your country/state/city are TRUE?

Postby Everlong » Jan 07, '15, 2:20 pm

We've done false stereotypes in the past before. But now let's be a little self-deprecating. Which stereotypes are TRUE?

While the obesity/fatness stereotype of Wisconsin is definitely untrue, the drunkenness/DUI stereotype unfortunately is. Wisconsin has some of the highest DUI rates in the country, and due to alcohol being so ingrained in our culture, some of the highest binge drinking rates as well. This has good sides in the sense that there's probably no better state in the nation for craft beer and German food, but yeah, plenty of downsides as well.

Canada definitely is cold, in winter anyway. We definitely do love hockey, I believe it was something like half the country watched the 2010 Olympic Gold Medal hockey game.

New York City/Long Island:

-Driving:
We do indeed drive like assholes. Get out of the way.
-Jaywalking:
Why the fuck are you going to a crosswalk? There's no cars coming. Just walk across. But actually look. If you do jaywalk and a car is coming, they will not only hit you, but probably hit you on purpose to send you a message.
-Hipsters:
The Brooklyn hipster scene is very real and very terrible.
-Expense:
It's insanely expensive to live in the city, and property taxes on Long Island are fucking ridiculous. Food is also incredibly expensive, with the exception of pizza in the city. Which can sometimes be $1 per slice, depending on where you are.
-Rudeness:
Don't make eye contact with us, or smile at us, if you don't know us. It's weird. We won't know what to do.
-Pizza:
Yes, we have better pizza than you.

As far as the rest of New York state goes, it's the complete opposite. I've been living further upstate in the past year and a half, and it's a damn culture shock.

Most people do like tea, and it does rain all the time.

Country- Large sections of the country tend to be very overly patriotic.

State- Worst roads you will find. God help me its cold.

City (Detroit)- The city has sections of greatness, but has even larger sections of poverty, abandon buildings, and giant eye sores.

Everyone associates Michigan with Detroit and that is why we get a bad rep. Places like Troy, Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Ann Arbor, and East Lansing are actually really awesome.
