This, specifically when I hear someone voice their ignorant opinions in public. I work with a 27 year old who tried telling me last week that Obama is a Kenyan Muslim. Of course, I said that was wrong, as he's neither. This guy laughed at me, and told me to 'do my homework'.
Speaking of Muslims, it offends me when people voice their completely ignorant and irrational opinions about them - unfortunately this seems to be fairly common in this country. I don't profess to have a particularly deep knowledge of Islam, but it was the subject of my dissertation and since I've taken an interest in stories about Islam in the press. It seems that no matter what the story is, it'll be met with irrational disapproval from the general public. Honestly, sometimes I feel that a group of Muslims could save a hundred children from a burning orphanage and still get irrational hate for it.
Organisations like the EDL offend me as they just try and promote hatred against Muslims, and many of their followers don't seem to know a thing about the religion. Remember there was that skinhead who kept talking about 'Muslamic law'? There was also a story in the news that Subways in this country were going to serve Halal meat, which people flipped their shit about. Why? It's the same meat, it's just been killed in adherence with Islamic law.
Unfortunately, it seems a significant portion of the general public here seem to be irrationally suspicious of Muslims, and it offends me when they open their mouths and tell me about their ridiculous views. People are dicks.

There's a group on Facebook called 'Britain First' which is always spreading false and usually racist propaganda, couple of people I know share things off their page every now and then, it's obviously either not true or has been completely sensationalised but of course people don't let things like that get in the way of a good story. It drives me nuts.

There is this guy at work who some people find hard to like. Mostly, he isn't a bad guy. But he gets very angry easily and argues a lot with people. Because of that, a lot of people don't like him. Now personally, I have no problem with him. I see why a lot of people do, but I have never had any issues with him and we get along just fine. He is a much older man and when I started, I got sent to the department he works in and he had to teach me and show me the ropes. He was the most senior guy in that area. Now, after two years, he is talking about leaving which would make me the most senior guy. So I guess you could say he was sort of my mentor. What he really doesn't like is lazy people, which I am not. I guess that's one of the reasons why he never gets angry with me like he does with other people. Other people have said it's because I am not a really confrontational person and just keep to myself and do my work and perhaps that is true.
Anyway, one day, he got really angry at this other guy who works there to the point where he was screaming and shouting at him. Now, I totally don't agree with him yelling at the guy and he definitely over reacted. But I did understand the reason he was angry with the man in the first place. Even though the way he handled the situation was completely inappropriate.
So, I was talking with my friend about the whole situation and we were discussing why those two were having a disagreement in the first place. As I said, I don't condone the way he reacted but I do see why he was initially upset. And that's what I said to my friend. She, however, disagreed. Which is fair enough. But she kept saying that I am only saying that because I didn't want to anger him. She kept saying that this guy has, in her words, brainwashed me into agreeing with him and that he has taught me to think like he does. This really insulted me because she was basically implying that I am incapable of forming my own opinions and was only in agreement with the guy because had corrupted me in some way. It couldn't possibly be because it's just the way I truly feel.
