Chiefs will go farther in the playoffs than the Broncos.

Postby Everlong » Oct 20, '13, 7:59 pm

I bet all ya'll.

Broncos defense is trash. This team reminds me of the 2011 Packers: record-setting offense with QB carrying the team because of his otherworldly play, while nobody seems to notice how bad the defense is. The Packers finally realized that style of play doesn't work and have gotten back to a much more hard-nosed brand of football. The Broncos are going to find out why most teams in the last 15 years to have won the Super Bowl have done so while playing solid defense.

Broncos might go 16-0. The Chiefs might not win the division. But I'm willing to bet that Kansas City goes farther than the Broncos, or at least wins more playoff games (I think Broncos could go one and done, but I'd be very surprised if the Chiefs do).

I have to agree with you. The Chiefs also have a better chance of going undefeated longer than the Broncos do. Even before tonight (game aint over yet and hard to wever count Peyton out) I figured by the time they met in week 10 either both would be 9-0 or Denver would be 8-1

Unless Peyton pulls of a miraculous comeback, it looks like Denver is on their way to their first loss. The Colts are up 33 - 14 in the 3rd quarter with 1:00 left. Kind of disappointed since I wanted to see Denver and KC go undefeated till they meet each other Week 11 on Nov. 17.

Yeah, the Broncos defense is pretty bad. But it will improve with Von Miller back.

Those god damn mistakes, f*ck. The Holliday fumble, the Hillman fumble .... so many of the Colts points were unforced, like at 25 of them.

And the officiating was horrendous - so many missed holding calls.

I don't think so. 15 years ago maybe, but in today's NFL with the rules there to support offense and punish defense teams with quarterbacks get the job done and teams without do not. Pop quiz what quarterback does Alex Smith basically share a completion percentage with? Answer: Brandon Weeden. Still like your odds of that working?

If you have a decent offense and a great defense then you are on to something, but I don't think the Chiefs even have that. Also, look at who the Chiefs have actually played this season. Jacksonville (28-2), Dallas (17-16), Philly (26-16), Giants (31-7), Tennessee (26-17, after Locker injury), Oakland (24-7) and Houston (17-16). The Cowboys are the only team that will most likely make the playoffs out of that bunch and that's only because of a pitiful division.

Denver has beaten Baltimore and Dallas both. Plus, look at the potential matchups they will have to play. I still believe that Denver wins the division and gets home field which means KC will have to play either New England, Cincy or Indy in the WC round and I don't think there's any drop off in talent there.

The other problem a defensive team has is that they play low scoring games, low scoring games inherently are closer games so the Chiefs are most likey to be in a game decided by one score, which means a quick mistake could swing the game away from them.

Also, the Packers that year lost to the Giants who were quarterbacked by Eli Manning. Eli > Alex Smith and they lost 37-20. They were 1 and done because the Giants were a team with a defense and great QB play. The Chiefs don't have great QB play.

You do know that so far they have both played 5 of the same teams out of 7 games right? Until this week there was only 1 game where they hadn't played the same schedule. And the Ravens suck this year so...

John, Baltimore is 3-4, it's not as though they're some huge victory. Denver hasn't exactly played a great slate of teams either.

I think you're completely underestimating what generating QB pressure does to an opposing offense. Heck, we just saw it last night with the Colts... a team finally generated pressure on Manning and it completely disrupted that offense. The Chiefs are off to a record-setting pace in terms of creating pressure.

And in terms of QB play, I think you're both undervaluing Alex Smith and overvaluing Eli Manning. As Eli's shown this year, he's not a particularly great player. And while Smith isn't great himself, he's mostly efficient and doesn't turn the ball over.

^^^ Tim, what you are overestimating is the thought that just because the Chiefs have generated a pass rush against the Jaguars, Eagles, Raiders and Giants that they will be able to generate the same pass rush against the Broncos or any of the other playoff teams. They won't be able to. The teams they rush have awful offensive lines, teams in the playoffs will have really good to great offensive lines.

Well the Colts did it last night, what makes you think that the Chiefs, with a significantly better defense, can't also do it?

I'm saying how good the Chiefs front 7 actually is hasn't been determined yet. They've beaten up some sieves of offensive lines, but I will wait to say they can do it once they actually do it against somebody better.

EDIT: Also you say the Colts did it last night. What did they do last night defensively? Still give up 33 points? That's the lowest point output for the Broncos offense this season and it's still 9 points better than the Chiefs average point output and two points more than the Chiefs best output this season.

All I'm saying is let's wait until the Chiefs prove on their best offensive day they can score more points than the Broncos on their worst offensive day before we come up with a path to victory for Kansas City to beat Denver.

I seem to remember a 2007 Patriots team that people were calling the greatest offense of all time scoring only 14 points in a Super Bowl against a New York Giants team that had very similar strengths to this Chiefs team. And 2013 Alex Smith > 2007 Eli Manning. Plus those Giants didn't have a running game as good as these Chiefs do.

Different time, different team, different situation. Nobody knows what will happen in January.

Which is why it's so stupid that people have basically already crowned the Broncos in the AFC.

Time and time again, history has proven that a strong defense that can create pressure with a four man rush is the key to stopping a high-powered, spread out passing attack. Just in recent times it happened to the Colts in 2004 and 2005, the Patriots in 2007 and 2011, the Packers in 2011 and 2012. It will happen to the Broncos again in 2013.
