So beating your wife and knocking her out results in a 2 game suspension whilst smoking weed gets you banned for a year.

Worst commissioner ever.

This is an absolutely fucking ridiculous decision and everyone who was involved with this should be 100% ashamed of themselves.

It's even more ridiculous that it took EIGHT FUCKING MONTHS for them to determine they were going to uphold it. Absolutely unbelievable. I'm pissed about this and I'm not even a Browns fan.

I'm a little confused about this. The NFL must know that people think this is ridiculous, why are they sticking to their guns when doing so just makes it worse.

Also, Josh Gordon must be a complete idiot to get suspended a year for smoking weed, even if it is out of line.

Fun fact I just heard on the radio. An air traffic controller is allowed to show up to work more high than Josh Gordon was busted for being. And he just catches footballs, and he was on vacation.

Because Roger Goodell gets off on having what he believes is the moral authority.

Because the NFL has made a 20-year plan out of helping/giving a break to Baltimore while bending Cleveland over and screwing them every chance they get.

I'm on the fence with this one. On one hand, I think this is a little outrageous, but on the other hand, Josh Gordon knew another failed drug test would probably result in a one year suspension. He knew the risks (job-wise) of what he was doing, but decided to do it anyway.

I'm more concerned with the Ray Rice suspension. It seems that part of the problem has to do with the NFL's disciplinary program. Whereas the substance abuse policy is pretty cut and dry, with a suspension consisting of a predetermined number of games, depending on how many offenses the player has. But when it comes to other situations, such as the Ray Rice case, they have no guidelines and seem to make it up as they go, which results in Rice only being suspended for two games.

Yeah, this is definitely legitimate, and Gordon shouldn't escape any blame here. He's getting paid millions of dollars to play football and not smoke pot, so he should keep his toes in line with the rules.

But the rules themselves are absurd. The NFL and its appeals courts should be more worried about handing down just and commensurate punishment than simply throwing up their hands and saying "rules are rules." Part of the problem is that the NFLPA caved to so many of the owners' demands in the collective bargaining agreement that there are some outrageously stringent rules in place... like this one. And the fact that the NFL has known about the failed test since December and didn't do anything about it until now is absolutely absurd.

Yeah I was just saying that Gordon can't escape fault just because the punishment may not fit the crime.

He knows that smoking pot and getting caught will result in punishment, and he continued to do so after he was caught. Maybe he likes pot, but if your job making millions is put in jeopardy by doing it, maybe cutting it out of your life it the wise choice.

The one thing I will disagree with slightly is that the NFL makes it up as they go. The NFL has pretty steadfastly used a two-game suspension as the punishment for domestic violence for years and the public at large have never questioned it. The only difference between Ray Rice and those who came before him is reading a headline makes someone feel one way, watching a guy drag his fiancee off an elevator on video makes you feel another way.
