Summer transfer window - hopes and predictions

Postby PorkChop » Apr 02, '16, 12:44 pm

What players would you like to see join and leave your club?

I'm obviously hoping for a massive clearout at Villa. The only players I expect to stay are Clark, Okore, Hutton, Westwood, Grealish, Agbonlahor and Gestede. Ideally I'd sell half of that lot, but I feel they'll probably stick around.

I'd like to see Villa bring in Jeff Kendrick of Derby - looks an exciting player, and I feel him and Grealish could be great together. Maybe Patrick Bamford on loan and see whether he can replicate his previous form in the Championship. Both of these are fairly ambitious though, and knowing Villa we'd rather re-sign Emile Heskey on a four year deal.

What players are you hoping your club buys and sells?

I don't know about specific players, but if Norwich stay up, I'd say we still need a quality CB. Klose is class and has improved us defensively ten fold. Bassong and Bennett are decent partners for him but if we can get someone of Klose's quality alongside him, I'd be delighted.Obviously that would allow for Michael turner to leave permanently.

I'd say we need a central midfielder with a good range of passing. It's hard to see who he'd take the place of, as Howson has been excellent since he's been back in the centre of the pitch, instead of playing out of position on the right, Then you need a Tettey or Gary O'Neil to sit there and do a job screening the back four. Ideally, we need someone who could do that and has a better range of passing than Tettey.

Desperately need a striker not named Cameron Jerome.

I don't think Mourinho will bring in the wholesale players being linked but 3/4. Ibrahimovic, a defender, midfielder and a winger.

Rojo to go please and Januzaj on loan again.

Arsenal could use some defensive and striking help.

Odds are, we'll get another midfielder.

My only hope at this point is that Norwich can keep hold of Redmond, Klose and Howson. Cause we're fucked without them.

Yep. Just spent £30 Million on Granit Xhaka. Never heard too much about this guy but hopefully he is decent. I hope we do bolster our defense as well. And I have always come to Girouds defense but a more prolific goal scorer wouldn't go amiss. Rosicky, Arterta and Flamini and all due to leave the club. They were good players who had done well for us over the years but they were all surplus to requirements at this point.

Arsenal triggered the release clause for Vardy. I...don't know how to react...

I can't believe that. Seems like the complete opposite of an Arsenal signing.

Not sure he'll have a system at Arsenal that he can fit into..

Leicester, if they had to lose any of their star players, wouldn't object to losing Vardy compared to Mahrez/Kante.

Ibrahimovic closing in on a move to United and club are interested in £40m defender Eric Bailly from Villareal, not heard much about him but probably will be a Mourinho type defender.

I'm not sure if Vardy would fit in well at Arsenal. But that man has shown himself to be a proven goalscorer, which everyone likes to keep reminding Arsenal fans that is what we need. There could perhaps be other big name strikers we could sign, but perhaps Wenger thinks he has more of a chance of signing Vardy. I don't know. If it happens, I'll try a be optimistic about it and see how he does before judging him.

I don't know about proven goalscorer. He got 24 goals in total last season, but he only scored 5 in the season before that - on average, a goal every 7 games.

Whether he can replicate this season remains to be seen. If anything, it's unlikely. A decent proportion of his 24 goals last season were penalties, and an even bigger proportion were from counter attacks. Arsenal tend to play possession-based football and despite having a fair bit of pace, they're not really known as a counter attacking side. Vardy probably wouldn't be Arsenal's first-choice penalty taker either, so it's difficult to imagine him replicating his form last season based on what we've seen of him. Who knows though - he could prove me wrong.

It's such a weird signing though. He seems to be the complete opposite of an Arsenal player. By that, I mean that he's not a young central midfielder from France.

I'm not entirely sure why Vardy would want to join Arsenal. He's already won more at Leicester than he'll ever win at Arsenal.

I wouldn't have expected Wenger to go for a 29-year-old striker for £20m based on on really good season. As noted above, not sure he'll be able to replicate his success.

I hope Vardy stays. Not least because I want to see what that Leicester team (Vardy, Mahrez, Kante) can do in the Champions League next season but also because I don't want to see him playing for Arsenal - the definition of a plastic club.

Twitter rumours have it that Villa want Bamford, 6 million.

Providing this is true and he replicates his previous form in the Championship, he'd be a fantastic signing. Unfortunately Newcastle want him as well though, apparently.

Villa are again hoping to sign a Croatian international keeper, Lovre Kalinic. We were in talks to buy him in January but he was refused a work permit, twice, so the transfer broke down. He's now going to the Euros as Croatia's number one keeper.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are getting work permits for Kenyan 11 year olds. What gives?

Hm. Well, so far we've got the pre-contract Accrington lads, Matt Crooks and Josh Windass coming in, we've got Jordan Rossiter and Joey Barton coming in on free transfers. They all primarily play in midfield as I understand it and if there's any area of the field we're saturated in, it's there. So you'd have to imagine they'll need to be versatile and spend a decent amount of time occupying other roles in the squad, maybe Windass heading up to play as a wide attacker and Crooks or Rossiter doing more of a utility job further back.

With that in mind, there is no question whatsoever that we need a defensive rock. I've heard nothing of Dom Ball coming back for another season, that really leaves only Danny Wilson and Rob Keirnan, both players who can be solid on their day but are also prone to errors that will be exploited more and more as we play in more competitive fixtures, particularly potentially European dates in the coming years. I was reading today that there was interest in Steven Taylor who was recently released by Newcastle, I feel like he would be a sorely needed steady hand.

Wes Foderingham didn't have a poor season in goal for us, while there were more errors than I'd ideally be comfortable with, I'm willing to give him a season to try and iron that out. Liam Kelly and Robby McCrorie are both Keepers with a lot of promise and Kelly in particular will undoubtedly have his eyes set on regular first team football, either here or elsewhere so there's no need to go overboard with expensive signings in that area.

In terms of spearheading an attack, right now our options are Martyn Waghorn and Kenny Miller. Waggy won the golden boot this year and before his injury he was in great form. Kenny filled those shoes after the injury and can still do a hell of a job for us when it matters. Ryan Hardie will be back from his loan at Raith where he did an alright job but time will tell if the gaffer thinks of him as being ready for the first team just yet, a new center forward is a likelihood I feel.

Lee Wallace and James Tavernier were ever present in the full back positions this season and were consistently two of the better performers in the team, which is lucky because in the event of a dip in form or an injury there was no cover to speak of. Fraser Aird gave a good account of himself on loan for the Vancouver Whitecaps I hear, so he can be a very solid deputy right back but that does leave Waldo as our only left back. A smidge more depth would be appreciated, though in terms of specific players I've no idea.

If I'm guessing I'd say we will probably dip into the loan market and bring in a reserve from a Premier League side, Warburton and McParland have ties to the Spurs and Liverpool academies, respectively, so that may very well be where we'd be looking.

Norwich are apparently interested too.

Not sure why. The time he spent on loan here last season, he looked like a newborn deer with two broken legs who'd never even seen a football before, let alone kicked one.

Oh, this one slipped my mind but I just saw it's close to being done. Apparently Warburton is proper set on signing Niko Kranjcar. We still don't have enough midfielders evidently. :lol
