Gary Neville usurps brother Phil for the Valencia job!

Going to miss Gary on Sky Sports - completely raised the bar to analysis on football and provided the Garygasm and other moments of banter with Carragher.

No doubt connections help in this case but he said in an interview he was going to make a decision soon on whether he went into coaching and it seems he's decided now is the right time. Valencia will be a tough job but after a slow start, he could take them to a respectable level. He's chosen a tough assignment for Spain but unlike some of his contemporaries, he's analysed the game from a distance rather than jumping straight in. After Moyes' failure at Sociedad, hope Neville does well!

A very poor appointment on paper. Valencia is a big club and Neville has the same amount of senior management experience as my nan.

Having a brother there and being mates with the owner is the only reason he's got this job.

Right on the latter point, he's keeping the seat warm until Phil has got the necessary qualifications to coach in Spain which, will by the end of the next summer when Gary has relinquished the role.

Sure he's not got experience but anyone who can't see his punditry shows a man with knowledge, analysis of the game, and that will help in good stead. Phil's Spanish is good and is liked in the squad so I think he'll do well.
