September 2015 Fútbol/Football Discussion: Thank fuck the transfer window is closed...

Postby AkydefGoldberg » Sep 03, '15, 2:57 pm

Time to focus on the important things, ya know, the actual matches. Too much transfer hyperbole gets tad nauseating..

Start this on a positive note but respect to Aston Villa for being the first PL club to have a "Refugees Welcome" banner at their next game next Saturday. It's an initiative that will hopefully kick on but Germany's fans have been incredible. Bayern are hosting a training camp for refugees to come and do various activities; clubs inviting refugees to come and watch games; Celtic have announced a 10% for their Jock Stein charity game going to a refugee fund...

According to rumour, Bradley Johnson was sold to Derby because he was shagging Lewis Grabban's missus. It all seemed to happen pretty quickly, so who knows. I'm not prone to believe it as 'd have bitten anyone's hand off for 6-7 million for Johnson, and we had Jarvis lined up to replace him. Would be tremendously funny if it were true though.

Excited for the first CL match against Juventus. For once perhaps we can start the campaign with an impressive performance and 3 points.

Chris Herd left Villa because Darren Bent shagged his girlfriend. This is actually 100% truth, loads of photos of her and Bent circulated for a while. Afterwards Herd came down with depression and hasn't featured for a long time - he was offered a new deal when Sherwood took over but turned it down.

It seems if you shag your teammates' wives, you're sold to Derby. Bent, Johnson... John Terry is next, just watch.

Good interview with former Rangers midfielder Brian Laudrup - reminder of the 90s when Rangers v Celtic had two teams well stocked and battle hardened.

Has Paul Lambert taken a drink from the fountain of youth or something? Just saw him as a pundit for the Scotland game there and he looks 15 years younger than he did managing Villa.

He looks like he's lost a fair bit of weight. He looks like he did in his Norwich days.

Shame Scotland couldn't get the equaliser. Great game though.

Rooney gets his 50 goals for England, beating Sir Bobby Charlton. Appropriate description of the whole thing was a tweet: RVP is Holland's all time scorer but is he better than Van Basten? No. But respect is given for the record breaker. Same thing applies for Rooney. But we're still going to hear about it as they're going to do something before Estonia game and there's a BBC documentary with Lineker on the 5th October to look forward to. Glad international break is over..!

So, Dave Stays.

There is a lot of politics and people putting their position clear but it's legit to think that De Gea and his agent are pissed at Real's inability to close the deal quickly. I would think if the Euros were not on the horizon then he might have not signed but he seems reserved and the whole speculation was probably getting to him so he's wanting some resolution so he can play ahead next summer.

If there was a release clause, I would think it would have got out with the sources in Spain. Plus his agent would have leaked that to let Madrid know that they can get their player next summer for a similar fee.

Great timing, looking forward to the game!

Also watch LVG press conference, it's brilliant. Didn't think he was pissed off at all, the complete opposite but he needs to deliver with performances to continue that support.

Martial could get a debut tomorrow - Rooney's got a hamstring issue. Best not to risk it I reckon, could be problematic going forward if he pulls it further. Hoping United give me a good result on the eve of my 29th just as they did for the fixture in April on the eve of my wedding!

Stevie Naismith goes and scores a hat trick against Chelsea but can't even get on the park for Scotland. Strachan is a goof.

Great sub by Roberto! lol

In other Scottish news, saw Aberdeen beating Celtic 2-1 despite being ten men down. Be good if former can go all the way this year..

De Gea's back but no Rooney so the big man Fellaini is back!

Jesus Navas is just awful at finishing. Great move to get all alone past the keeper with a wide open net and he misses.

Ieanacho though. Saved it for us. 5 wins in 5 matches. :cheers

Not sure whats happening to Chelsea but it's enjoyable to watch.

Benteke is one of the best finishers in Europe. He's shite when they use him as a target man, as although he's good in the air, that's not his role. He's class when they play to his strengths.

Liverpool were disappointing - I thought Rodgers had taken Monk's template of two up top but Ings was wasted and didn't help Benteke, whose goal was excellent, kudos to the finish. Rodgers/Liverpool could have tried to take the game to United early on but did the opposite. Maybe that was down to the players missing so they had a more pragmatic approach.

I think we will see the best of Depay towards the end of the season and next season. He's clearly not adjusting to the lack of space he gets and not being able to run in behind (or being given the confidence by the coach to do so) isn't helping. He'll find more success in the CL as shown by his performances so far in that competition - luckily Young can come in and maybe we'll have to ease Depay in a bit more in the PL..

Martial's finish was brilliant, namely his composure and Martin Tyler's commentary added to that moment. But he seemed to drift to the wings at times so not fully sure he can be as disciplined to stay up top. I thought Fellaini could do that today but his touch was poor. Excellent team performance, defensively, it's frustrating to think it requires a slight change in thinking attacking wise to really get the performance going forward.

Okay @PorkChop, you win.

I've lost all faith in Rodgers.

It isn't even about the result yesterday, there's no shame in losing at Old Trafford. I just feel like Coutinho is literally the only player Liverpool have that has genuine creativity and can keep hold of the ball. Even in the victories over Stoke and Bournemouth they've looked toothless in front of goal and yesterday, the second match they've had against top tier opponents, they didn't look like scoring. (Took a worldy from Benteke to put one in the net)

I just find it fucking breathtaking that he didn't strengthen the main area of weakness they had last year in defense. Clyne is a terrific signing but his persistence with Lovren is flat-out baffling. I'm not too worried about the attacking side of play going forward because Sturridge will improve the side playing with Benteke and Ings is a decent bench player.

If there's even a 1% chance you can get Klopp on board I'd go for it.

"Tactics Tim" Sherwood - Alright lads, I know we're 2-0 up away from home against a team we need to beat and our midfield is being torn apart, but I'm going to use up our substitutions and put on some more strikers.

Impeccable tactics, thanks Tim.
