Well, that was a quick turnaround. Here's his official statement: http://resources.fifa.com/mm/document/a ... eutral.pdf

So now the question, can FIFA un-corruptify itself soon?

Sadly it's the world we live in. As long as major sports generate millions/ billions, they will always have corruption and greed leading them.

What led to the sudden change of heart? Why didn't he just bow out of the election?

He probably found out he's about to be arrested.

Imagine today's developments with a letter implicating Valcke of being aware of a request for a bribe undermined him more and/or he realised the cops were set to knock on his door next

David Ginola is planning to go for election again. Wonder which betting company will back him this time

Lots of time before the old man actually goes so enough to do something "positive" so he can leave with the tiniest shred of integrity

He's not being investigated at this point in time, for whatever reason. It's bullshit.

Many European countries discussed breaking away from FIFA and forming a new World Cup, and many sponsors are under pressure to pull out. Also the fact that there's been tons of arrests of FIFA officials have put pressure on Blatter to go. I hope David Ginola or Luis Figo get the presidency now.

Michel Platini is the new favourite to take over.

This is ridiculous.

It seems FBI are also looking into 2018/22 WC in regards to corruption aswell.

Putin is going to nuke the US if he loses the World Cup. Qatar will get over it.

Speaking of stepping down..

This film wouldn't have done well at the best of times for FIFA, never mind its worst.

Since the recent corruption stories broke, another story has broken in Ireland: apparently the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) were paid €5 million in compensation for Thierry Henri's handball in the build up to the 2010 World Cup. Interesting stuff, though not exactly surprising.

It didn't massively surprise me considering John Delaney was involved tbh.

All it means is that the FAI can't really have this holier-than thou attitude towards FIFA when it took a 5m euros for a refereering error.

FIFA and Blatter must have been worried enough to pay the money.

"Refereeing error". :P The referee was probably thinking "Is that Henri's hand approaching the ball? Pity my shoelace is coming undone and I won't be able to see how this plays out ..." :P

Agreed though, the FAI deserve blame here too. It's hard to find an organisation worth supporting in the football world, it would seem.
