Well, that's exactly the kind of start to the season we needed! Down to a
sloppy goal on our part conceded to Hibs really early on, James Tavernier shook off a poor start and really grew into the game, scoring
this belter of a free kick to pull us level. Martyn Waghorn lurking in the box managed to
tuck in another to give us the lead for half time.
We dominated the second half with some real standout performances from Lee Wallace and David Templeton who were causing constant trouble down the left hand side. Martyn Waghorn netted a
second goal from a tight angle to give us a little cushion before we conceded a
weak penalty for Hibs to
draw it back to 3-2. Andy Halliday restored the 2 goal lead with
this beauty, having bossed the game since we recovered from the early goal, and substitute Kenny Miller
got a
couple for himself to round out the game at 6-2!
The Challenge Cup is pretty much the least prestigious competition we'll be taking part in this year but to get such a dominant win over our biggest title rivals in the first game of the season is a really important marker for the season, I've been impressed with all of the new signings we've seen play, if we can keep performances like this throughout the season we will stroll to promotion.
