Stoke have signed Shaquiri (sp?) and all of a sudden some of their fans think they have a shot of finishing in the top five.

They're this season's Southampton, it seems.

Shaqiri isn't even that good - he hasn't impressed since about 2012. Stoke will finish about 8th.

It shows the increase of TV PL money allowing clubs like Stoke to spend £12m on a player. TBF, they've got most of their signings on free but players they've got are decent like Afellay and experience like Given.

Thoughts, @Daz?

We've been linked with everyone under the sun, so I'd be surprised if there was actually any truth in it. Out of everyone we've been linked with, Quintero was still the most exciting, and would have actually added something we're sorely lacking, in some creativity in the final third.

A lot of our fans seem to think signing a striker would solve all our issues, and thought the same under Hughton the last time we were in the Premier League. The fact is, we lack pace, our approach is pedestrian and predictable and we give teams too much time to set up to defend against us. That's why Hooper was largely ineffective and why RVW only got 1 goal and something like 9 chances the entire season. Destro might be an upgrade on the strikers we have as an individual, but really, he won't improve our team unless we get better in other areas. We still need to ship out Lafferty and make a decision on RVW too.

We desperately need a new Right Back and Centre Back before trying to add another attacking player.

Hooper was absolutely on fire during his time under Lennon at Celtic, no surprise he wants to bring him in again. Should be a great signing if it goes through.

As far as Stoke fans thinking a bit ambitious, I don't blame them to an extent. The team is looking pretty solid and when you've got that kind of excitement around your team it's easy to get a bit pie in the sky. Top 5 is definitely pushing it but who gives a shit if they're overestimating, let them.

Been an entertaining couple of days to say the least. Scott Allan (promising Hibs midfielder with a year left on his contract) had put in a transfer request to try and force a move to Rangers (he's a noted supporter). Rangers either weren't willing or weren't able to make a big enough offer, with their manager outright saying he will not do business with Rangers. For a while it seemed like it would be a case of signing him on a pre-contract in January.

It has recently emerged that Celtic have had a bid accepted and he's there now getting signed. A strange choice, moving to your club's bitter rivals especially seeing as he'll be a bench player for them in all likelihood but it's one I understand, guy's recently started a family and he'll be looking at the bottom line. Rangers folk on twitter have been absolutely fucking livid. :lol

Honestly I think as far as his footballing career goes he would have been better served coming to us but I'm not as heartbroken as some seem to be. We've got a really exciting squad as it is and though he would have been a great addition we'll not miss him too much.

No confirmation yet but it's looking like the third loan signing that Warburton spoke about could be Chelsea midfielder John Swift. Reading up on him it seems like he's a proper talented player who at one point was backed to become an important player for Chelsea. Another exciting one to have around, I'm all for it if it's true.

It also seems that Haris Vuckic has been told he can leave Newcastle. He did well here last season on loan so if we can bring him in I'd be all for it. We'd be set at that point, though. Any more and we'd be a bit bloated in midfield.

EDIT as I've already triple posted. :lol Update on the loan signing, it's now looking very likely to be Gedion Zelalem of Arsenal. Seems very highly rated, glad to have him! :tim Know anything about this guy @Viazon?

Manchester United were in talks to sign Barcelona's Neymar, according to The Sun. :clap

More believable if it'd had been Messi FFS.

Neymar's in the process of negotiating a new deal so imagine his agent threw this story out and The Sun, all too happily took it.

As an update on the Zelalem situation, it seemed like it was off for a while as his dad supposedly didn't want him moving to Glasgow but whatever the situation was it has been resolved and he starts training with the squad tomorrow!

I've been looking into this guy since we've been linked to him and he seems to be held in very high regard, looking to develop a more physical side to his game and deal with the expectation of winning in front of 50,000 people every other week and that's why he's moving to Rangers.

It's encouraging that some of the top English clubs are trusting Warburton with developing their young talent. I'm excited to hopefully see Zelalem in the squad on Sunday against Queen of the South!

Honestly, Scott Sinclair could be the signing of the season. 2 million pounds, 5 goals in his last 2 games. He was brilliant when he was on loan here last season too.

How much did they pay for him? Because it must have been a lot. I'm just wondering, do you think they would even need him? I been, they have enough decent midfielders as it is.

Remember a few years ago when United fans would accuse City fans of buying the league? :lol

Look at how much money United have already spent. And they can't even beat Swansea.

Good chance we've not got a hope of winning it then..

City could still be buying the league considering they've spent over £100m and United, with the sale of De Gea, is looking like net spend - which is the hip word these days - will be not a bad sum.

Martial signing seems a panic buy. Sure they might have scouted him but he'd still be at Monaco next summer. Despite waving their dick to Madrid over De Gea, they're now selling him one day away from deadline with Romero in goal...and Hernandez is off to Bayer Leverkusen and Januzaj on loan to Dortmund. Summer transfer window finishing poorly for United..
