Clarke Carlisle fighting for his life.

Clarke Carlisle is fighting for his life after being hit by a lorry.

Carlisle, the former Leeds, Burnley and QPR defender who went on to be chairman of the PFA and also achieved acclaim for his appearance on TV’s Countdown, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with life threatening injuries.

The incident took place near Bishopthorpe in North Yorkshire at 7.30am on Monday, with the road closed to allow the air ambulance to arrive at the scene. The reason for the accident remains unclear, however a police spokeswoman said they were ‘pursuing all avenues’.

shit. I hope he recovers!

I hope this isn't a suicide attempt. He spoke in October about how he's tried to kill himself before, and the fact that the reason for the accident is 'unclear' suggests it could be.

Damn, awful news. Prayers and thoughts with him and his family. Important not to speculate too much about what happened, let the cops do their business. It might have been the lorry driver's fault, who knows..

What a prick. If he wants to end his life then I respect his decision but he should have done it on his own rather than putting it on some unsuspecting lorry driver. Dude must have been mortified.

Ralf Little, actor, has had his say here, having known Carlisle and tbh, understand where the former is coming from.

He must have been in awful state mind, Carlisle that is, but like SJ said, that poor lorry driver must be haunted forever and probably affected him going back onto the road.

RL's words means I'm a tad less sympathetic for Carlisle for some reason, kinda agree with Ralf of the impact it has on others of repeated incidents.
