- Ronaldo is bigger, stronger, and still as fast as Leo Messi.

- He is only six goals behind Leo Messi's La Liga tally, and this is without playing his whole career in Spain and having his team built around him, which are two benefits that Messi has. Despite this, Ronaldo was the fastest player in La Liga history to reach 150 goals.

- He is a better header of the ball and presents more of an aerial threat. He's also scored more headed goals than Messi.

- He's far better at penalties than Messi. Ronaldo has scored 23 of his 24 penalties for Madrid. Messi has scored 20 of 27, making him a somewhat above average penalty taker - hardly a great record.

- it's a pretty lame reason to claim someone is better than someone and actually if you look into this more you'd actually find that Messi is the better free kick taker as he hits the target on more occasions than Ronaldo

Messi also has nearly 20 more assists than Ronaldo since 09 when Ronaldo joined La Liga

Assess the squads of Portugal and Argentina and there's no doubt out of Ronaldo and Messi, who should have done better than the other internationally.

Messi, tbf, had a decent WC and had Di Maria played in the final, I'm sure he'd have inspired Argentina to win the WC. Ronaldo has a piss poor team playing around him and Portugal would not have made the WC had not been for Ronaldo dragging them there courtesy of his majestic performance in the play off vs. Sweden.

It's only been in the last 2-3 years that Messi has shone better at international level but tbh, he should have achieved more with the quality of team mates he has but that's partially down to coaches of Argentina not really defining his role and the team mates around him.

On the first point. Messi probably had his best WC performance but he was far from amazing. He hardly imposed himself in games but scored the crucial goals especially in the group stages. Argentina, is far from a "trash" squad. They've got a host of top players compared to Portugal who have to rely on an out-of-form Nani and other players who are sub-standard. It was only because of Ronaldo that Portugal made it to the WC.

Messi has had some help in Barca is an understatement. That team from 2008-2012 was made for him with Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro. The style of play was conducive for Messi to succeed and it showed with their success. Ronaldo has been the star of the RM team but that's for good reason - he is that damn good.

And I suppose Portugal is a squad filled with top notch world class stars? Look at Argentinas squad and then look and Portugals squad and tell me who has the better players.
