Who will replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager?

Postby AkydefGoldberg » Mar 30, '14, 8:56 am

The Telegraph reporting that there is growing sense that Wenger may walk away at the end of the season.

It could happen as he has been vague on contract talks and I can't see how he could justify a big salary if they are usurped out of a 4th spot by Everton who after winning today, with a game in hand, go 4 pts behind Arsenal and latter will have to travel to Goodison Park next Sunday.

So if he does go, who will replace him? I can't see Klopp leaving Dortmund as he seems intent to see out his contract.

I think Diego Simeone would be a viable option if he doesn't win the La Liga or Martinez might be ready to take up the challenge.

I wouldn't mind seeing Martinez replace Wenger. I don't even know why, I've just always liked Martinez, and considering how well he's done at Everton and if he's given a decent transfer budget, he could do quite well.

Martinez hasn't even been at Everton a year yet, and he's done absolutely nothing of note in that time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wenger decided to walk away. His formula stopped working years ago.

I'm not sure who would replace him though - ideally, someone young with European contacts. Whoever comes in, they'll be faced with a huge task. Arsenal's whole team needs to be stripped down and rebuilt. They have some quality players, but the squad is diluted with plenty of average ones too.

I'd put a bet on Klopp, though failing that, either Stojkovic or Rangnick.

Man I always think you can't get more weird and then you say something else :lol

The image of Viazon and his equally odd mates all sat outside the supermarket eating chicken together in the car is too much :lol

Right now if he was to go at the end of the season I'd put my money on Klopp. Arsenal fans want a known name with a proven history of success and he's certainly had that at Dortmund and now it looks like the Borussia dynasty is coming to a close now that Gotze left, Lewandowski is going and Reus is likely to be off in the Summer. That's who I'd think they'd want.

^Klopp would be ideal but I really don't think he will break his contract that easily. Compared to other managers who leave a job at the drop of a note, think Klopp (due to him playing a massive role in their rise) will leave before the end of his contract which I think runs out in 2016.

But who knows? Wenger might decide he wants to stay and this whole discussion is futile!

Then again, maybe David Moyes might like the challenge if the Gunners can get into the champions league.
