World Cup Discussion Thread

Things established so far:

- Ronaldo is GOAT

- Messi is a peasant

I shouldn't laugh too much though as I drew Argentina in the work sweepstake...

Spain Portugal was mint and Ronaldo was boiling piss for his haters - a penalty, a keeper error and a worldie!

Argentina simply can't get Messi to shine which is not a surprise if they haven't managed to do anything substantial in terms of a team strategy.

So far so good for this tournament.

Germany lose to Mexico. Somewhere Leroy Sane is pissing himself laughing.

Just getting ready to watch the England game on BBC one. They have done this whole video package on people talking about Harry Kane. Talking about how far he has come and how good he is. While these type of videos are quite heart warming, I really don't think they are a good idea. In regards to how far he has come in his career, I'm guessing it is really no different to any other player on the team. They all worked hard to get to the top. Yeah, I know he is the captain but it is clear that he has been chosen by the media to be THE guy to win it for England. This adds so much extra pressure on him. They do it so if England do win, they can go back to this video with all these people who said such nice things about and it will all be nice and heartwarming. If England do bad, he will no doubt get a lot of the criticism.

This ref is shite. Harry Kane could take a People's Elbow in the box and the ref would wave off any appeals.

Kane definitely took a spear tonight but he took his goals like a striker should.

I don't see the need to go OTT over the performance after the goal, they just tired as it went on however showed resilience to dig in. I could find myself getting behind this team more than any other England team since 1996.

The commentator just said that Sweden's goalkeeper is "just a bit taller than the former host of Stars In Their Eyes, Matthew Kelly"

Germay could be going home at this rate. This World Cup would be the third consecutive one in which the champions went home in the group stages, I think. Crazy stuff.

VAR has added some exciting finishes to the last round of group matches, despite VAR still being a discussion point for and against post-match but this World Cup so far, and with the planned round 16 matches which are tasty, is making this WC one of the best in my lifetime.

As an Italian, I still have very sore feelings towards South Korea over the 2002 World Cup. But I must say, I am all for the idea of Germany getting knocked out of the group stage. God damn, that was intense. I'm so happy the goal stood.

South Korea's 2002 run would absolutely rigged. No doubt in my mind.

A major IF is England beating Colombia, who have two very good central defenders and a much improved Falcao and IF James Rodriguez is fit then it's not an easy game as is being made out. Plus there are bare fans in Russia for Colombia

Cracking ties coming up until Tuesday, two games a day.

I think this is the best chance we have of getting to the final in a long time. Sure, any of these teams coming up could beat us, but I still think we have a good chance.

We should get a Bank Holiday on Monday after the final, we'll need a day of celebration, right? Although as it's Theresa May and she's a killjoy, probably not.

But what an ending, seeing Facebook posts from people who've barely shown any interest in football nevermind England, cheering the team on.

It's going to be hard without any football for two nights...
