Malta tomorrow for Scotland in the World Cup qualifiers. Not a new story by any means, this game should be a comfortable win, but we're all too familiar with fixtures like these where we're expected to win and you see zero effort going in from the players as if they think it's a given.

It's been so long since we qualified for a major tournament, the last time I remember any real belief that we could was Euro 2008 when we got fucked by the bloody cheating Italians. Now we're sitting here with a chance of making it to the play offs.

As I understand it, we have to win our last three games against Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia. In addition to that, we need either England or Malta to beat Slovakia (England play them tomorrow so would be nice if they could do us a solid here :P)

This is far from the strongest Scotland team I've seen, but I don't think qualification looks that far fetched right now. Our hardest game left is Slovakia at home and I fucking know we can win that on our day. It's difficult trying not to be cynical about the team considering their track record but if things go the way they should tomorrow night we'll be in with a great chance.

Bruce out. The man is a dinosaur and has made some absolutely baffling decisions this season. Albert Adomah is the best winger in the league on his day as is our most creative and incisive player by country mile, so naturally Bruce leaves him out of the match day squad despite him being fully fit.

On paper, this Villa squad is the best squad the Championship has ever seen, and we can only manage one shot on target against Brentford. It's disgraceful.

Bruce has the Boro game on Tuesday night to save his job. He should probably start clearing his desk now.

Frank De Boer is gone after four games, the shortest ever managerial reign.

No sympathy for Parish - he got complacent in thinking after being engaged in relegation battles he could do better by playing expansive football and get up the table. His problem being that he didn't assess whether his squad was capable for what De Boer wanted. The coach seems to have made mistakes, for sure, but he deserved more than four games and for all reports yesterday, had it not been for a clanger by his defender, he'd have got his side's first point.

Even if they made the change end of October, they could have had time to get out of any relegation trouble. The fact they've appointed Hodgson suggests they didn't have a clue about what they wanted, and how they would allow De Boer to the time and tools to do it so they thought well, let's go back to a Big Sam-type manager to help us survive again and scrap that idea of beautiful football. Zero sympathy for Parish.

Steve Bruce is a sly bugger. He keeps saying how he hasn't been at the club very long (in 28 days he'll have been at the club for a year, including two transfer windows) and how it was unfair for fans to boo the "four 19 year olds" on Saturday at the 0-0 draw with Brentford. Fans weren't booing the kids, they were booing him and his pathetic impersonation of a manager.

If we don't win at Middlesbrough tonight he's gone. It's no less than he deserves.

Villa have reached out to Oscar Garcia, allegedly. I'd prefer him to Bruce. I recall him having Brighton playing some fairly exciting attacking football a few years ago.

Some of the names on the odds list are pretty depressing though. Sign of the times.

Can't wait for you to fire Bruce and replace him with 'Arry!

What happened to Saido Berahino?

In 2015 he was about 21 years old, and scored 20 goals in 45 games for West Brom. I remember Spurs really wanted him at one point for upwards of £20million.

Now he hasn't scored for 18 months. He's playing with absolutely no confidence and looks like a non-league player up front for Stoke at the moment. He's gone from one of the country's brightest prospects to one of the worst strikers in the league.

Berahino clearly got carried away by his success and thought by playing up he'd force through a move. He didn't then his value dropped and clubs drifted away.

TBF, I question whether Hughes record of buying big money players helps him as he's spent huge but not resulted in a league position where they should be.

Fuck me do Saints play some boring football.

They've scored 5 goals this season, 3 of which came in 1 game, and 2 of those 3 were penalties. I've never seen a team play so many sideways passes as Saints have this season. It's dreadful.

I fancy them finishing 15th or 16th this year. They finished 8th last year but were only 6 points off relegation, and this season they look terrible. Austin hasn't scored in 9 games, Gabbiadini has scored once in his last 15, and Shane Long has never been prolific. If they don't invest heavily in the squad in January, they could be in for a tough time this season.

It won't be a World Cup without Barry Bannan.

So glad I don't watch an England game these days, especially not qualifying ones.

So dreary and dull and despite sacking Big Sam, they've not progressed any further under the safe coach they handpicked. Southgate's managerial record suggests he wouldn't be pulling up trees. With the players he has, shows how limited he is as a tactical coach he can't get more out of them. Even Hodgson's qualifying games had goals.

The highlight of Gareth Southgate's managerial career has been leading Middlesbrough to relegation, but now he's England manager. Let that sink in for a minute.

If we go to Russia playing like we did last night, then shitty teams like Iceland will destroy us... again.

I feel for you @SlightlyJames - contrary to England supporters' delight in their agonising failure, I was hoping Scotland would do the business. I hadn't realised they'd gathered some momentum to get them into this position.

Wales v ROI tonight with the home side needing a point and the away side a victory for a play-off to join Northern Ireland who have nabbed a place in the play-offs as well.

Egypt reach their first WC since 1990 leading to delirious scenes in the country.

Whenever I see Liverpool vs Man Utd listed I feel that I should watch it incase I miss a good game, but it turns out to be shite every time.

There's a very thin glimmer that Mourinho will go slightly more adventurous at Anfield after last year but fair play to him, he's not one to be swayed by anyone. With Liverpool's defence and recent form we should have posed more problems as the build up to Lukaku's effort showed but standard Jose.

He's banking on United to do the business in the other games against teams outside of the top six and if he can not lose in these games he'll see that as, potentially, the route to a title.

Having a world class goalkeeper like De Gea helps his style and even Jones/Smalling emerged unscathed despite a nervy opening in the second half.
