2017/18 Football Season Thread

PL season started last night and the first two games were goals galore!

Chelsea getting beat 3-2 at home to Burnley and the defending champions have problems on and off the pitch. It wouldn't be a major shock if Conte was the first managerial casualty of the season.

Huddersfield win 3-0 at Palace; Brighton losing atm 2-0 to Man City.

Liverpool drawing 3-3 with Watford, leading to a debate between Carragher and Redknapp which as always, the latter drones on by speaking the cliched jargon about 'leaders' whilst Carra starts to wish he could drop an F bomb.. Coutinho situation dominating their campaign atm.

United have West Ham tomorrow - need three points and a performance would be nice.

Rangers lost to Hibs today, main talking point of that match was Anthony Stokes grabbing Ryan Jack by the throat while the latter was trying to settle down an altercation after a foul on Graham Dorrans in the first half. The ref felt that Jack was the one who deserved a red card in that situation. :lol Was an absolute howler for that ref today. Rangers pretty much crumpled with Jack gone, wasn't until the last 10 or so minutes that they started to show a bit of fight. Was too late to change anything though.

2 games in to the season and Steve Bruce has 2 more games to keep his job.

He's had plenty of time and money to make the team his own, and we're struggling to beat Colchester and just got dicked 3-0 by Neil Warnock's Cardiff.

I can't see us getting promotion this year, which means we're doomed. Parachute payments will cease and we'll face "doing a Leeds" and staying down here forever.

A fantastic start to the season and a dominant display. Once we got into the game and understood what WH were going to set up as it became liberating to see the forward players attacking. Matic played a major role in that, massively enhances our midfield and Pogba improved as the game went on. Rashford was a threat all game and the assist for Lukaku's first was a beauty (bit of salt by Souness suggesting it was for Matic) and would have deserved a goal. I think if Martial can get into a rhythm, him and Rashford alternating on the wing could work of Perisic, as expected, doesn't join.

These are the types of games that Lukaku was bought for. Last season we drew with West Ham at home and on last year's form we might have won 2-0 but it's pleasing to get four. Granted, West Ham gave us the space but you take it.

Bailly and Jones, if they can play together well and allow Lindelof to take his time adjusting.

2-0 down to Reading at the moment. Bruce will be gone by the end of the week.

We have the greatest captain these shores have ever produced and still lack leadership and direction. We've signed the league's top scorers and can't score for shit. Our manager has been promoted 4 times with other teams but clearly has no idea what he's doing here.

Martin O'Neill put a curse on us when he left. We're doomed.

Sounds like Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner have settled in real nicely at Ipswich. Glad for them, particularly Waggy. He was on fire in his first season for us until he got injured then never found any sort of form again, Pedro didn't seem to see much in either of them but in a different team, different style of football, they seem to be thriving.

On SPL related, find the complaints against Neil Lennon on him responding to Rangers fans' taunts as abit hollow.. he was fairly placid compared to what other people may have done. The history is such between him and Rangers that he can't do anything with nuance or with a touch of humour as it's so bitter and furious at times.

Hoffenhaim were very underwhelming last night. For all the talk on their 30-year-old coach, I didn't see much invention for a side that struggled in the final third.

Nuance and humour is a bit of a stretch. :lol Don't get me wrong, Lennon is a cunt, but considering the shite he'll have been getting from that crowd from the second he walked out, he's entitled to a bit of a wind up in response. The people actually getting mad about what he did are just numpties, normally I'd just handwave them and be done with it but our main fan group published a fucking statement condemning him. When your primary representation as a fan is getting baited into this kind of shit, it's fuckin embarrassing.

I thought you'd destroy us, to be honest. We've been shit all season. I don't know where that result came from.

Bloody international break after three games FFS

They need to axe that booking for celebrating in the crowd rule, gave Mike Dean a chance to be the centre of attention yet again and have to say, fair play to Aguero for showing concern for the fan who was being mauled by the security guards who subsequently alleged 'assault' claims on the player.

I'm starting to think our season is over as well. We're definitely not getting automatic promotion with the shite football on display at the moment. I reckon another 8th-9th place finish is on the cards, with Bruce gone by Christmas.

The Championship is a ruthless beast.

It's frustrating watching teams tear us apart with simple balls over the top. It happened all last season. It happened 4 times today, and we shipped 4 goals against fucking Millwall. Millwall. Fucking Millwall. I don't understand how we're not aware that this is gonna happen, and how we're not capable of stopping it. What the fuck are they doing all week in training?

The fact Russel Martin is still employed by Norwich City is fucking shocking, and the fact he's starting every week even after the performances he's been putting in the past 4 seasons is even more ridiculous. Usually I'm pissed about the international break coming so soon in the season, but fuck me, we need the time to sort this shit out.

To add to the self-pity party, Bradford were 3-0 up yesterday in the 70th minute and still drew 3-3.

Done.
