Thought I should come in and offer my congratulations to you 'muricans on an amazing win last night. Completely deserved, great performance and probably my favorite match of the tournament so far. The Ghanaians are phyiscally superb so I didn't fancy you beforehand but credit where it's due. It's also amazing to see that so many of you watched the game and may have developed an interest in the sport that'll stem further than the World Cup.

Unless Ronaldo pulls a one-man-team thing out of the bag (as he's certainly capable of) I'd certainly think you're capable of beating Portugal, wouldn't fancy your chances against ze Germans though.

Brilliant win for the USA. Apparently Brooks had a dream that he'd score in the 86th minute (he scored in the 80th) hence his reaction on scoring. I still expect Portugal to just ABOUT, edge second place.

He did? I read he was abit short on his prediction. Either that or I've got the minutes wrong. But yeah, you get the gist of it.

Jesus tittyfucking christ, that game. Such an emotional rollercoaster. Definitely came away from this one appreciating the sport much more, too.

Let's take it to Germany and get on to the next round!!

Klinsmann said he's going to go for the win, and not settle for a draw. I imagine Germany will do the same too. I definitely don't think they'll just pass the ball around and wind down the clock like people are saying.

I think it'll be a great game.

Never thought we'd advance out of this group. WOW. Great job, USA :tim Wish we could have managed a score in this game, but I'll take the advancement.

A few times, they actually made it to the Quarter Finals in 2002.

Congrats guys. I certainly expected Portugal to scrape second but USA have been aided massively by having Klinsmann as a coach. He's got experience at a World Cup and he could be a coach that might, eventually, end up in the Premier League although a coaching spell at Bayern suggests club football might not be for him.

Is the USA Soccer team success the talk on the breakfast table and in general conversations in the States?

Definitely @AkydefGoldberg. I've never heard people talk about soccer this much in my life, everyone is getting into it. Usually there's an OK spurt in interest for the World Cup, but even for the very first game this year it was hugely noticeable, and it's just gotten massive since then.

So tomorrow, I'll obviously be rooting for the US in the second game, but who would USA match up with best out of the two teams in the first game? Basically, I'm asking since I'm unknowledgable about world soccer teams is who out of Argentina and Switzerland which team is easier to beat.
