I read somewhere a while back that there are more abandoned homes in Detroit than there are homeless people in America.

Basically in 2008/2009 when the economy in America crashed, it hit Detroit especially hard because it was the epicenter of the auto industry in America. The result was this.

Yeah, obviously there were a lot more factors (I gave you a pretty simplified answer) but that's the crux of it, anyway. Hard to believe that at one time it was one of the most bustling, promising cities in America.

I went and looked it up after I saw these pictures and it's pretty much a string of bad choices, government, leadership, corporate greed and the financial crisis all coming together and just ruining a city. A city that historically, according to Wikipedia :D, has been one of the strongest in the United States since it was first established.

Yeah, it was a situation that had been building for a long time thanks to a lot of the local politics and poor financial management. But once the economy crashed five/six years ago, that really was the final nail in the coffin.

Some parts of that city now are incredibly dangerous. Detroit and Flint (another city in Michigan that suffered a similar fate) are now considered to be the two of the most (if not the two most) dangerous cities in America.

Detroit has actually been in a slow decline for decades (arguably since a sharp peak in the 1950s), but it just accelerated rapidly as of 6 years ago.

I've always been fascinated by urban decay from flight that you see in the US, as it doesn't really happen here. It seems weird to me that you can just vacate entire parts of a large city. Difference I suppose is we have a handful of big cities, the US would over a hundred.

Back when the financial crisis hit, some Aussies thought they were onto something by buying detroit houses for a few thousand dollars. I doubt they would even be worth anything now.

Yo, I'm sorry but if I'm the dude with the nice house living next door on Bryden street, my property or not you better recognize....I'm coming next door full force, busting out my Z-Turn and Weed eater, at least attempt to make it look nice. Image

Like really? You're making my crib look bad.

Then, I'm going to say, I don't know who built this fence here. Image
