How is Donald Trump doing?

Postby PorkChop » Apr 16, '16, 9:28 am

I haven't really been paying attention to the election - does he still stand a legit chance of being president?

I remember Tim initially laughed off his chances, then in later threads seemed to be reluctantly accepting that Trump could actually take office. Is this still the case?

Seems like he's the favourite to take the Republican nomination. I still doubt that he could beat whoever the Democratic candidate ends up being, but you never know. He's certainly in with more of a shot than he reasonably should be.

He's doing good. I think one if he reasons he's lasted so long is because the media has really shit the bed when it comes to covering him objectively. Since Donald regularly tells supporters the obvious, that the media is full of shit, nobody takes hit pieces on him seriously.

Trump's such a fucking joker. Look at his face when he talks, he doesn't believe a single word that he says. He'll get the GOP nomination but his whole reason for existing in this race is so that the majority of the American population will vote for Hillary out of fear when she's up against him in the general election. This has been the plan since 2008 when Clinton lost to Obama.

A couple of problems with this plan are:

1.) They were not expecting Trump's success.

2.) They were planning this from the beginning to distract from the real anti-establishment candidate Bernie Sanders whom they were really not expecting to succeed so well. The American people are waking up to the corruption and are continuing to with a solid pace. Look at the Democracy Spring rallies in DC which are ignored by the mainstream media because people are disenfranchised by big money in politics and civil unrest. Look at the recently leaked Panama papers. This is the shit that Bernie has been exposing for decades and now that he's running for President, more people are listening.

If you listen closely to the way that Bernie talks, it's clear that he's taking his campaign all the way to November, despite the fact that Hillary, Bill and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and the bankers could potentially rig the Democratic nomination for the Clintons even if Sanders wins more states. Bernie has been winning all of the past few caucuses, primaries and has won every debate despite the way that the media fucks him every time. I am certain that come November, Bernie will run as a Democratic Socialist/Progressive and would clean up in a triple threat with those two goons Trump and Clinton (if her handlers like Goldman/Sachs and George Soros rig the dem-nom for her).

He'll probably win the Republican nomination, but he has very little chance of becoming President.

Even if Sanders doesn't win this election, and he won't, it's only a matter of time before we get a president like him as the younger generation rises.

Are you following the same elction? If Trump is a plant, he's an incredibly well portrayed on, as there is a fair chance Trump gets the nomination stolen from him by the GOP. Talks of a Paul Ryan and Jeb Bush ticket are going on now with Ryan meeting with donors earlier this week lol.

I think Trump is ridiculous and worthy of all the scorn that people are firing at him. But the idea that he's only running to scare people into voting for Hillary (which is a conspiracy theory that has become shockingly prevalent) comes off as speculative nonsense. I know that he's supported them in the past, and that he was once a proud Democrat. But I don't think that him changing his colours is as a result of some political ploy. It's much more likely that he's an opportunist, a nutjob and a fraud.

Trump will get the Republican nomination but I'd imagine Hilary wins the Presidency in the end. Surely, Trump won't become President, although it seems he will do very well in the states that like what he says.

Sanders seems to be doing well with his recent wins but I think he's far behind Hilary or that it'd take a massive few wins to get there but he seems to have resonated with younger voters and it's a shame Hilary's surname and massive financial backing as Vaderbomb has said, will get her over the line.

There is a lot of momentum for Sanders right now though. He's won the last seven caucuses in a row. His nomination is still a longshot, but I feel his chances are being deliberately underrated by the media in the hope that he'll go away. I wouldn't write him off just yet.

Trump is worst off now then he was before the Wisconsin primary. Had he won Wisconsin, he would have had a shot at the necessary 50% of delegates. Now it is highly unlikely. That means the nomination will come down to the Republican National Convention. Which means a group of people who don't want Trump as the nominee will be deciding his fate. He is screwed.

Sanders is also another candidate that is screwed. I actually would have been interested in seeing how he did in a normal election, but Sanders is going to be a casuality of the Democrats moronic system. Sanders is hurt by the super delegates.

From what I understand, people are counting the super delegates in Hillary's favour, but they almost always side with the popular vote. So the fact that people are presuming that they're for Hillary already is misleading.

Re: How is Donald Trump doing?

Yeah the nomination is Trump's unless it goes to a contested convention, at which point the Republican party gets to choose who they want to represent them. This means the Republican part is screwed, because:

1) If they choose someone other than Trump, who will have had the largest percentage of votes (but not at least 50 percent in this scenario), they risk alienating a huge portion of Republican voters and turning them against the party, causing the party to completely fracture. Then, the person who they choose to run will basically have no chance, as Trump will probably still run independent and still get a lot of votes from his own supporters, taking votes away from the establishment choice.

2) If they do choose Trump, or if Trump wins the nomination outright by getting more than 50 percent of delegates, he still only stands a very slight chance to beat Hillary and zero chance at all to beat Bernie.

I don't see a scenario in which the Republicans choose Trump in a contested convention, even if it means splitting the party. At this point I think the Republicans have no choice but to blow everything up, because they've gone so batshit insane over the last few years that all their biggest candidates are guys like Cruz, Trump and Rubio... racist, sexist, science denying, radical conservative evangelicals who have made a mockery of a once legitimate party.

Long story short, Trump has a good chance of being the Republican nominee, but still next to no chance of actually being the president.

Also @Vaderbomb, Bernie has already said he would not run independently if he loses the nomination.

He will, trust me. He doesn't want to scare off necessary democratic votes so he's looking towards getting the nomination, currently. If he gets fucked by the rigged system then I guarantee he will shift towards winning in November. He's already stated that he won't allow Hillary in his cabinet and that he'd chose someone progressive like Elizabeth Warren.

He's said many times that he's in this to win. He has millions of dollars in campaign contributions, why stop before the election? Hillary says she's all about unifying the party but she's full of shit. If she was, she'd drop out because clearly the people are for Bernie and the establishment is backing her. Bernie isn't just about unifying the party, he wants to unify all Americans.

He's also said that the priority is making sure that a Republican doesn't get into office. If he ran as an independent candidate, it would be the biggest helping hand he could give to Trump or whoever.

I don't like Hillary and definitely agree she's the establishment choice, but if the people were "clearly" for Bernie then this race wouldn't be close right now. It's not like she's not getting votes. She's still the frontrunner for reasons beyond more significant financial backing from large donors and corporations.

If this were another year, another election, I'd say maybe Bernie would continue to on with his campaign. But like @Hanley! said, doing so right now would be the best way to put Donald Trump in the white house. And say what you will about Hillary, she's generally a terrible person and a bad candidate, but I'd much rather her be making decisions that could impact the next 5 decades than trump, especially when you consider there are at least one or two looming Supreme Court decisions.

Of course, that's a worst case scenario and I'd much rather just see Bernie take it all. But if/when he loses the nomination, he's going to concede to HIllary. Which will probably make the internet explode. But he's already said he would on several occasions. I don't see why he would suddenly go back on his word.

In an ideal world, both the Republican and Democratic losers would run independently. I am all for spreading out the voting in the national election. It would be nice to see people get to choose between more then two candidates. Ideally, people would look to the third parties, but the average voter doesn't care to spend the time to actually look into other parties.

It's a Catch-22, people don't look to third parties because they know a third party candidate can't win. They know others won't look at third party candidates so voting for a third party is just throwing away your vote at that point.
