Dash cam shows officer running over armed suspect with squad car

Apparently this is now another outrage and "example of police brutality."
Read the whole article and watch the video and judge for yourselves.

I see nothing wrong with the cop's actions in this particular situation.
Our country has really had it out for cops lately, though, so I'm probably in the minority on this one.

When he's running down the street carrying a "high powered rifle he's already fired once," you do what you have to do to neutralize the threat. I don't have any issue with the cop's actions in this particular case.

However, it's not hard to see why the country "has it out for cops" lately when there have been numerous cases of officers gunning down unarmed civilians in the streets... one of which was actually recorded recently.

True, but to be fair how many cops patrol the streets and keep them safe every day without assaulting or shooting unarmed people? A lot more than a few extreme cases, as numerous as they may seem because of the press they get.

If only that logic was applied whenever there is gun violence in the United States.

The best one is the old 70 year old insurance agent playing "police reserve" and mistakes his gun for a tazer and just blasts the poor dude away. I've said since I worked as a detention officer in college back in 2004, old ass men should NOT be considered "police reserve." The old guy that worked at the jail was dumber than a box of rocks, so fortunate that he was never needed in any capacity whatsoever.

Still, reading replies on that video, it's clear that more people are outraged that a vehicle was used, "overkill," etc.

There are a lot of really bad policemen that are being pulled into the limelight thanks to recorded video, so hopefully those will be weeded out quickly, but it's clear they also need to stop with very old and/or very undertrained "police reserves" and perhaps offer a vastly improved gun safety training regimen.

Also, these dumbass people need to quit running away from the cops. No one ever "gets away" and it's clear they will shoot your ass, accidentally or purposely, so quit feckin' runnin'! :rotf

I'm fine with what happened here - it's unfortunate but he was a serious threat for the community. You don't want to fuck with somebody who has nothing to lose.

This happened less than 100 miles from my house and it has had massive media coverage because of its proximity. Needless to say the guy robbed some joint, tried to set a church on fire and shot the gun while cops tried to stop him. Also, he was not even seriously injured from the car. They said a bit over 24 hours in the hospital, nothing broken just banged up

^Yeah, but people see the video and they think, you know, using a car is over kill, that the cop was trying to kill him with the car, etc. I'm like "Yeah, they probably were trying to kill the guy that shot at people, robbed a place, was carrying a gun and firing it into the air, etc." It just never ends, the public outrage/outcry, no matter what happens.

Obviously the police should have shot the Gun out of his hands and subdued him with pillows.

Yeah, I don't see why there's a huge issue with this. The cop stopped a guy who seemed like he was gonna kill some people, and he didn't even have to kill him to do it. Isn't that the dream?

Sure, the visual's a little strong, but that's probably just 'cause it's unusual. There were no bystanders to get accidentally hit, and this was probably safer for the officers involved. Any outrage seems like a storm in a teacup.
