The Americans can't read, which is why they're confusing the two.

Google said scollop is an archaic spelling of scallop so bite me. You're the ones who named a battered potato after a fucking mollusk.

So a scollop is the same as a scalloped potato? Is that what's happening here?

Fun Fact I had the same search results as HFX basically saying it was a different spelling of the same thing.

This site when Americans call football 'soccer' - "Guys come on, is it really that much of a big deal that we Americans have a different word for something? Let it go, man"

This site when Brits have a different word for something: "AHAHA retarded Brits!! Fucking idiots! LMAO!!!"

Edit: and why are people bringing scallops into this? Scollops and scallops are completely different things, they just have a similar spelling. No one here ever said they were the same thing. I tell you what, cock and coke are spelt quite similar, do you Americans get confused and ask the staff at McDonalds for a large cock?

Actually, better not bring cocks into this after yesterday's thread ;)

No, I've got it the right way round.

I've seen Americans defend their decision to call American Football 'Football' as apparently it's okay to have a word for something in your country despite it not being recognised overseas. But when we have 'scollops' here in Britain, a word for something which isn't recognised overseas, apparently that's hilarious.

And what's so funny about scollops anyway? Like I said, people here and confusing them with scallops and then making jokes. The two are completely fucking different, which is why they're spelt differently. It's something even a five year old wouldn't get confused over.

It's just a term for a type of food over here which you don't have. Over here, we don't have things such as "sunny side up" etc, but we don't find it funny that you guys do.

This thread has gone to shit over some people confusing potatoes with seafood.

Just PorkChop.

I wouldn't mind having a try of scollop. Gotta be better than scallop.
