GFW Progress slower than expected

Postby Str8Shooter » Aug 26, '14, 2:59 pm

Jeff Jarrett is reportedly headed to scout potential buildings for TV tapings in New York, Dallas and Los Angeles in September.

People close to Jarrett and Global Force Wrestling say negotiations are still ongoing for a GFW TV deal but they are moving slow. The promotion hoped to have something locked in by now but they do not.

There should be more announcements coming soon in regards to Scott D'Amore's involvement with GFW and the company's relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The whole process of launching GFW is going a lot slower than officials wanted.

More good news however for GFW. In addition to the alliances formed with NJPW, AAA and countless promotions all over Europe they've now established connections in Australia. I have to say I'm really impressed with GFW so far, Jarrett is going about this in the right way and having all these partnerships with big promotions all around the world is going to prove vital.

Yeah it's nice that he seems committed to having these arrangements and bringing in some foreign talent. But at some point he's got to worry more about what's going on in his home base. Sometimes it seems like he's spending more time traveling the World taking photos and signing contracts than he is worrying about his own backyard :lol

He needs to get that TV deal signed, sealed, and delivered. That should be his main priority. Because all these deals with other promotions won't mean jack all if he can't get on TV in the US.

It's hard to know what way they're going to do this yet, but I'm just saying that there's a whole lot of successful wrestling companies out there that don't have tv deals in the US. There are other markets.

True, but everything about this suggests that Jarrett wants this to be bigger than your standard independent promotion. I would expect he won't be going ahead with shows unless he has a US TV deal of some kind.

The connections he's made worldwide already make this bigger than the standard indie promotion to be honest. GFW's presence will be felt by wrestling fans all over the world and I think that's a pretty big deal. The TV deal seems like the final major hurdle for them to overcome but hopefully they'll get it wrapped up soon.

He's gotta be able to pay all the foreign guys coming over here, that won't be cheap. Without TV money it'll be tough.

Not necessarily. We don't know anything about what they plan to do about putting on shows but a lot of independent promotions pay talent per show without covering travel expenses. If the wrestler wants a payday they usually have to make their own way to the venue.

That could work for guys within North America, but I highly doubt Okada and Tanahashi are paying their own way to the US to wrestle for an independent promotion. And the flights from Australia to the US would bankrupt any Aussie indy wrestlers.
