IMPACT Moving To Wednesday Nights

Postby Kreashko » Aug 14, '14, 6:02 pm

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 14, 2014) – TNA announced today its flagship program, IMPACT WRESTLING, will make a permanent move to Wednesday nights at 9/8c on SPIKE TV beginning next Wednesday, Aug. 20.

“Moving IMPACT WRESTLING to Wednesday nights gives existing fans and new viewers an opportunity to enjoy both wrestling and live sports even more throughout the week,” said TNA President Dixie Carter.

IMPACT WRESTLING has enjoyed sustained ratings growth this summer, drawing over 1.5 million viewers each week this quarter, and is among the most watched cable series in key male demos in its timeslot.

Sounds like a good move especially if SD! is moving to Thursdays.

I'm not American, but from what I've heard they'd have less sport to compete with in general on Wednesdays, is that right?! So even if Smackdown isn't moved to Thursday, this seems like a smart move. It means less competition in the demographics that they're focusing on.

This seems to be a good move for TNA. And it seems to indicate Spike are willing to renew their contract. Why bother moving the show, if they're intending on dumping them shortly? I think they've just developed a new strategy for the show, and that's probably a good thing.

I haven't really been watching either lately anyway, but if I was forced to choose between Impact or Smackdown, I'd pick Impact every time. Smackdown seems to be a waste of a show at this point, I don't think anything actually happens on it.

Surprisingly, since tna has made NY their temporary home the quality of impact has greatly improved. I don't know if it actually having fans that cheer/boo or just the venue but I have rather enjoyed the last month or so of tna, more so than sd easily

I feel like TNA in the first half of 2014 was a completely different company than the one I'm watching now. It's as if around Slammiversary or so, they realized the product was in shambles and they needed to step it up big time. Ever since then it's been one kickass show after another. More focus on wrestling, the X-division, using the roster correctly, etc. And lo and behold, the ratings are going up.

Good news (much to the dismay of some :lol ). They've extended their deal with Spike to the end of 2014 and talks are ongoing about extending beyond that:

I'm pretty sure that this has less to do with NXT or Smackdown or wrestling being on Thursday and much more with the fact that the NFL is about to have highly rated and watched football games on every week on Thursdays.

I was reading this earlier on a few sites. Spike is giving tna until the end of 2014 to show that they can turn things around. Apparently spike is more concerned with the the reputation and overall general fan thoughts about tna then they are about the money/ratings. They don't want to be associated with tna if tna is gonna continue down the road of being labeled the laughing stock of professional wrestling on the verge of failure
