Your Feelings On The Dixie Carter Angle

Postby EdgeStealsWives » Oct 08, '13, 8:50 pm

OK so I haven't been able to watch in the past 2 weeks due to being busy with work and school so I actually have missed the whole Hulk Hogan quit and most of this heel Dixie. I've heard it's eh but was wondering what you guys thought of it.

I've really started to hate TNA right now. With Aces and 8's being dismantled by their roster downsizing and the Dixie angle at best being a poor ripoff of what the WWE is doing right now and at worst just a trainwreck of bad acting and no logic. I usually have liked the product for most of this year, but this is hard to justify recently.

Yeah it's a shame to see where this product was and what is has become now. I just watched the Hogan/Dixie promo at the end of IMPACT this week and I just can't get behind Dixie at all. Like she's fucking horrible. I would think I would be more pumped to go into BFG but it's like meh right now. The Ultimate X and World title match will be good but aside from that I'm not sure.

Well I just don't see Dixie Carter adding anything to the product except looking like an old bitter woman. I don't think she anticipated Hogan quitting and she just looked awful on her hands and knees begging him to stay.

I want it to be good, and so far she's at least been getting the right reaction. I find her genuinely loathsome in the role. But when she's involved in a story it tends not to be very good. And the storytelling in TNA has been going downhill over the last few months anyway. So I'm definitely concerned. But I don't want to write it off just yet. Especially given that the Aces & Eights story is almost dead and I've been hoping the company can get a fresh start once they're done. They've been dragging the show down for a while now.

If Dixie appoints an evil General Manager to do most of her dirty work for her, that could help save this. Her being on television is the biggest problem with it.

^Appointing an evil GM would be a great idea, I just can't take Dixie on my television screen :lol I just can't think of anyone that comes to mind that would be a great evil GM other than Bischoff.

I also struggle to take Dixie seriously as a heel. I found her heel turn promo with AJ cringeworthy. I want it to be good, I really do, and i'm hoping for an exciting twist at some point.

I just don't like Dixie being on my screen full stop, I don't respect her I don't like her, and I find her entirely unbelievable as an actress. There is zero reason for her to ever be on TV, it's a pure ego thing

Maybe I'm the only one who's found it OK...

I mean, she's no great actress and its got in the way of the Bully/AJ build, but I've actually found her OK in the role, and at times pretty believable (Because a few things she says i can't help think she actually believes). I also think she needs someone else in the role of GM, but I'm hoping its a fresh new character, someone who's completely different.

Just a question, but why don't you respect her? By all means hate on TNA and a few things it does, but why hate on her specifically? From most accounts I've read, she seems like a very nice and friendly lady who's trying her best with what she has. I certainly respect her for that.

I have heard way too many horror stories about her, both from actually meeting wrestlers and from stories I've read online. Besides, her 'nice' persona comes across as really false to me, she seems very condescending , this was one of the most cringeworthy things I have ever watched in wrestling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn13PwaRQ6s

Every time she talks, it takes me back to my youth and watching old goofy cartoons with her annoying voice.

She is atrocious on the mic, and it doesn't help that all I can see coming from this story is how it will all turn out to be a double bluff when AJ wins the Title and Dixie gives him a new contract and is all smiles again when Bully Ray loses the power he currently holds over TNA.

Thus giving Bully Ray a taste of his own medicine when he betrayed TNA and management by revealing he was behind the A's & 8's all along.

The whole story absolutely sucks donkey balls. Dixie has no place on TV at all, I know the whole idea is the same story that has replayed over and over for years - the top power in the company goes rogue on the fans and the white night comes in and vanquishes the evil. But Dixie is, well, um... should be hit in the head with a fire axe and buried under thering to alleviate the headache I get every time she is on TV talking.

I think the other problem is just that there are so many holes in the storyline as well..........

I mean take the last episode of TNA...............Why did she offer AJ a big cheque to walk away and forfeit his Title match at BFG?

He doesn't have a contract (supposedly), so why is she trying to pay him off to walk away.........she has the power surely to just tell him, he has no contract therefore he has no reason to be on the show?

Genuinely it makes no sense, and it's because of things like this, that it just comes across as a clear double cross on Bully Ray, leaving him with no Title, no team mates and no power.............I can't help it, I want to be surprised when it happens, like I was when Bully turned on Hulk, but because of the story making no sense................I can only see this ending one way.

Him winning the Bound For Glory series means that she's contractually obliged to give him a title match. That part of the story makes perfect sense.

Dixie is awful. I actually thought her first heel promo was great, but I was afraid they were gonna use her too much and overexpose her; unfortunately I was right. In last week's Impact she cut like a 10 minute non-stop promo where she just kept talking and talking and talking, without pauses or nothing.

The AJ vs Bully part of the feud has been great though. As far as I'm concerned Bully Ray just cut the best promo of his career. Hard times!

Not really, because if the people in charge of Impact Wrestling knew what they were doing they wouldn't have let a wrestler whose contract was expiring before Bound For Glory to be in the BFG series in the first place.

To add to the problems with this story, doesn't she also hate Bully? Why would she be doing things to help Bully and not simply help AJ win and then have a challenger lined up to take the belt from AJ straight away so she could have a champion she wants. That also goes to nothing like pointing out the flaw originally in the story of telling people you hope buy a PPV to watch a guy win a belt isn't any good.

And finally, it's making the biggest event of the year for Impact the most predictable event I've ever seen.

^^ That's picking holes though - the Bound For Glory series started months ago for starters, they may not have had any doubts that Styles would re-sign. And the televised animosity between Carter and Styles is still quite new, so she might have been eager to have him re-sign until recently. Plus conceivably they have a specific formula for calculating who gets to be in the Bound For Glory series, and were obligated to include Styles as a result.

I know there are problems with the story, but people should concentrate on complaining about those, rather than picking at plot holes that aren't really there.

It seems she doesn't want Styles to win so she can just get rid of him. At that point, the company won't owe him anything and he can be let go. The same would not be true of Bully, given he would still be under contract. He just wouldn't have the title anymore.
t
And yeah, the story is really predictable. I agree with you there. But so are the majority of Wrestlemania main events. The good guy wins at the end of the biggest show of the year. That's just the way it goes. If you think this is the most predictable event you've seen in wrestling, you must not have seen any Undertaker matches in the last 10 years. :P

I just watched this week's Impact and here's a plot hole that did bother me. :lol

I didn't mind the idea of the bounty so much. Her trying to make sure Styles didn't make it to Bound For Glory makes a certain amount of sense. But the way she phrased it bugged me. She made out that if Styles didn't get to the contract signing, he wouldn't be entitled to appear at Bound For Glory. Which makes no sense. The entire reason he isn't just fired is because she is already contractually obliged to give him that title shot. The idea that Styles needed to sign a piece of paper to make it binding is ridiculous - particularly in the context of the rest of the story.

But I guess I often have that problem with contract signings in wrestling. Often there is no reason to have them at all. And on top of that, the piece of paper is treated as the only legally binding part of the contract. That's not how contracts work. You don't need paper for a contract to be binding, that just serves as proof. And agreeing to the contract in front of thousands of people worldwide is proof enough.

It just doesn't make any damn sense. Argh. I hate contract signings. :lol
