Hypothetical GFW question

Postby Everlong » Jun 22, '14, 10:12 pm

So if you weren't already aware, Jeff Jarrett has started a new promotion called Global Force Wrestling (GFW). http://globalforcewrestling.com/

They're currently in the process of bringing in talent.

Now, the following is a fairy tale scenario, but for the sake of hypotheticals, hear me out:

Let's say that GFW signs Colt Cabana, and he is able to convince his good friend, the one and only CM Punk to sign a contract with the federation... what does this do to the wrestling industry as a whole? Is there any chance that GFW, if it winds up getting a television deal with Punk on board, could start to become a competitor to WWE and TNA?

GFW won't ever challenge WWE but it could definitely make life rough for TNA and ROH. They now have working agreements set up with AAA and NJPW(two of the biggest promotions after WWE). I sure hope to see them make some more signings in the near future. I haven't really heard anything since they got Killer Elite Squad on board.

I doubt we'll see CM Punk join another wrestling promotion especially since he is supposed to have a lot of money saved up. It would definitely be the biggest free agent signing since WCW was stealing WWE talent in the 90's.

Jarrett is good friends with Toby Keith and there were rumblings of something associated with CMT. Even without a star like Punk they should be able to challenge TNA simply by offering a quality show that isn't a shitfest.

Absolutely I think they'll become larger than TNA. The pool of talent in the independents for GFW to scout is mouth-watering and Jarrett has a proven track record of starting a pro-wrestling company from the ground up - what with TNA on the rapid decline and many popular talents leaving it's not hard to imagine the likes of Styles, Bad Influence etc.. going back to work for Double J considering they all apparently really enjoyed working for him in the early days of TNA.

Global Force Wrestling has already announced partnerships with NJPW and AAA, two HUGE companies that will prove to be invaluable allies to them as they start up.The only stumbling block is whether they can secure a good TV deal but I'm confident they'll do a good job and I hope they do.
